The Winnipeg Jets franchise was still known as the Atlanta Thrashers the last time they were such a massive favourite on the road.
The Jets are a -200 away favourite while the Detroit Red Wings are +170 home underdogs with a 6.0-goal total on the NHL odds for Thursday at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. This is the deepest the Jets franchise has gone into minus money before a road game since March 2007, when the team was based in Atlanta. Since January 1, 2018, the Jets are 9-3 as an away favourite of -150 or more with the total going OVER in eight of those 12 matchups at online sports betting sites.
The Red Wings, who are on a 12-game losing streak, are also 0-7 in their last seven games as a +150 to +200 home underdog, with the total finishing OVER in four of those seven matchups.

The Jets’ 19-10-2 record includes a 4-2 record in away games against the Eastern Conference, with the total finishing OVER in five of those six games. Winnipeg, whose No. 1 center Mark Scheifele is on a four-game goal streak, has produced an average of 3.16 goals over its last 12 away games and ranks 21st in the 31-team NHL in five-on-five shot-attempt percentage (48.99 percent). The strong road play has contributed to the Jets moving up to 18th in goals scored (2.90) while ranking fifth in goals against (2.65). On special teams, Winnipeg is ranked 25th in both power play (15.6 percent) and penalty killing (77.6) efficiency.
Backup goalie Laurent Brossoit got the win Tuesday when the Jets won 5-1 at home against the Red Wings. Connor Hellebuyck, who is 15-7-2 with a 2.24 goals-against average and .933 save percentage, should be in line for the start.
The Red Wings’ 7-22-3 record is not only the worst in the NHL, but is six points removed from the league’s 30th-overall team. Detroit will win another game at some point, but it will require a major letdown from an opponent. The Red Wings have little depth beyond their Dylan Larkin-Tyler Bertuzzi-Robby Fabbri first line and rank 29th in the NHL in five-on-five shot-attempt percentage (47.62 percent). Detroit is also 31st, or last, in both goals scored (2.09) and goals against (4.00). On special teams, the Red Wings have a 27th-ranked power play (14.8 percent) and 31st-ranked penalty kill (72.5).
Primary goalie Jonathan Bernier, who is 5-9-2 with a 3.41 goals-against average and .888 save percentage, is in line to start for the Red Wings. Detroit is 0-7 in Bernier’s last seven starts.
The Jets have the next two days off before beginning a three-game homestand against the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday.
