The Winnipeg Jets have been a value play as a heavy underdog this season, but building on that will have to come at the expense of one of the league’s best home teams.
The Jets are a +175 underdog while the St. Louis Blues are the -210 home favourite with a 6.0-goal total on the NHL odds for Thursday at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Interestingly enough, the Jets are 5-3 this season as a road underdog of +160 on the moneyline or more, with the total finishing OVER in seven of those eight games at online betting sites. The Blues, however, are 9-1 in their last 10 home games when they go deeper than -200 into minus money, with the total finishing OVER eight times.

Jets at Blues | OddsShark Matchup Report

The Jets are 26-23-5 this season, including an 0-4 record in their last four road games. They are only five days removed from a 5-2 home win against the Blues on February 1, but that result was something of an anomaly as the Jets have scored two or fewer goals in six of their last seven outings, with offensive leaders such as Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler spending a lot of time without the puck on a team which is 23rd in the 31-team NHL in five-on-five shot-attempt percentage (48.3 percent).  The Jets are 19th in goals scored (2.89 per game) and 16th in goals against (3.06). On special teams, the power play is ranked 22nd (18.6 percent) and the penalty killing unit is ranked 29th (74.5).
Connor Hellebuyck has a 22-16-5 record with a 2.71 goals-against average and .919 save percentage this season. He has a 3.33 GAA and .902 save percentage in three starts this season against St. Louis.
The Blues are 32-14-8 this season and while they are only 5-5 across their last 10 games, it is notable for puckline bettors that eight of those matchups have been decided by at least two goals. St. Louis, which is 14th in five-on-five shot-attempt percentage (50.2 percent), has a more balanced attack than the Jets led by centers Ryan O’Reilly, Brayden Schenn and Tyler Bozak. The Blues are 11th in goals scored (3.20) and ninth in goals against (2.78). Their power play is ranked fifth (25.0 percent) and their penalty killing is ranked 15th (80.8).
St. Louis goalie Jordan Binnington has a 24-9-5 record with a 2.64 goals-against average and .910 save percentage. However, he has allowed 18 goals over his last five starts, resulting in a 3.81 GAA and .857 save percentage over that stretch.
Winnipeg has back-to-back home games this weekend, hosting the Ottawa Senators on Saturday and the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday.
