The Winnipeg Jets are now around two weeks away from opening their 2026-27 NHL season at home against the Boston Bruins. The Jets are also a bit over a month away from hosting the Montreal Canadiens at Princess Auto Stadium for the 2026 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic, with tickets for all games of the 2026-27 season on sale now. The long days of the NHL off-season are almost over, as we’re now just three days away from pre-season games.

With training camp beginning officially tomorrow, the Jets provided an update regarding Connor Hellebuyck. After months of speculation over the summer, the Winnipeg Jets star goalie publicly confirmed his trade request on August 27th. Since the announcement, the Jets have been firm on not “rushing” to fulfill Hellebuyck’s trade request, and reports have suggested that the offers the Jets have received for Hellebuyck haven’t been what they’re looking for in terms of a good return.

Jets fans began to wonder whether or not Hellebuyck would report to training camp or not, as he’s still under contract with the Jets until the end of the 2030-31 season. Unfortunately, the latest update on the Hellebuyck trade saga wasn’t a positive one. It’s something that was always a possibility, but regardless it’s something you don’t see all to often nowadays in the NHL.

The Jets have announced that Connor Hellebuyck is suspended for not reporting to training camp. Hellebuyck will not receive pay during this time, and he’s confirmed to the Jets that he won’t be in attendance after not meeting this afternoon’s deadline. Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff will talk to the media tomorrow morning (at 10:30 am CT) at the Hockey for All Centre. Cheveldayoff will explain (in further detail) what this announcement means, and he should provide an update for what happens next with Hellebuyck’s current trade request.

Tomorrow’s start of training camp will have a bit of a different feel to it with this media availability, but it shouldn’t take away from the excitement of a new hockey season. The Jets will be split into two groups for practice tomorrow, with “Team A” hitting the ice at 10 am, followed by “Team B” getting their turn on the ice at 1 pm.
