Tonight, on another heritage blue jersey night (the last until March 12th), the Jets will try to keep up their recent stretch of getting positive results. The Jets lost against the Florida Panthers in Winnipeg 2-1 on Thursday in a shootout. It was a defensive battle throughout, and another game where the Jets failed to reach 20 shots on goal. Tonight, the Jets play their final home game at Canada Life Centre before a four game road trip. The red hot Red Wings are in town, currently on a 7-2-1 stretch in their last 10 games, as they continue to climb up the top of the league standings.
The now 29th overall 20-23-7 Winnipeg Jets and 4th overall 31-16-5 Red Wings will clash at Canada Life Centre, with these two teams looking for a win on this Saturday night matchup. We’re now almost at the end of the month with the busiest part of the 2025-26 NHL season schedule. After tonight, the Jets still have 3 more games in January. The Jets next home game won’t be until February 4th, which will be their last game until February 25th.
The Jets and Red Wings have met once this regular season. The Red Wings were victorious in a defensive 2-1 win in Detroit back on New Year’s Eve. The season series continues (and concludes) tonight in Winnipeg. These two teams have been very evenly matched in their ten most recent matchups, with the Jets winning five and the Red wings winning five. With a win tonight the Jets would tie the “season series” against this Atlantic Division team who is looking almost like a lock to make the playoffs for the first time since the 2015-16 season.
The injury report for the Winnipeg Jets is now back to three names. Haydn Fleury has an upper body injury and is still considered “week-to-week”. Neal Pionk is also listed as “week-to-week” with a lower body injury, and that’s still the same status for Colin Miller, who recently underwent knee surgery. The Red Wings only have one name on their injury report. Simon Edvinsson was added yesterday with a lower body injury which will keep him out of the lineup “day-to-day”.
Jets Projected Lineup
Connor – Scheifele – Iafallo
Perfetti – Toews – Vilardi
Niederreiter – Lowry – Namestnikov
Koepke – Barron – Pearson
Morrissey – DeMelo
Samberg – Salomonsson
Stanley – Schenn
Hellebuyck
Comrie
The unconfirmed starting goalie is Connor Hellebuyck. After Hellebuyck’s most recent start, he now holds a 12-13-6 record with a 2.65 GAA and a .903 SV%. The Jets lineup is set to be mostly unchanged from their last game. Cole Koepke is back on the 4th line, Elias Salomonsson is back on the 2nd defence pairing, and Luke Schenn is on the 3rd defence pairing with Logan Stanley. As usual, there could be some announced lineup changes by the Jets prior to the game, so make sure to stay tuned to the Jets official X/Twitter account for any late lineup additions or changes prior to puck drop.
Red Wings Projected Lineup
Kasper – Larkin – Raymond
Debrincat – Copp – Kane
Finnie – Compher – Van Riemsdyk
Soderblom – Rasmussen – Appleton
Bernard-Docker – Seider
Sandin-Pellikka – Chiarot
Johansson – Hamonic
Talbot
Gibson
The Red Wings lineup is almost completely injury-free, and features several upcoming stars and some experienced players who are having underrated seasons. Looking at the Red Wings’ player stats through 52 games, Lucas Raymond leads the way with 56 points in 50 games. Cam Talbot is the unconfirmed starting goalie. Talbot continues to be a very serviceable NHL goalie alongside John Gibson. Talbot has started 23 games, and Gibson has started 31 games, as the Red Wings continue to cycle this 1-2 combo. Talbot has been posting some average numbers throughout this season, holding a 11-7-4 record with a 2.99 GAA, 0 shutouts and a .892 SV%.
Jets player to watch: Mark Scheifele
Tonight the player to watch from each team will be a forward who continues to be on a tear in their past stretch of games. Mark Scheifele is one of the few forwards who always seems to show up on the scoresheet for the Jets offence. In 50 games, Scheifele has 25 goals and 36 assists for 61 points. The Jets depth scoring continues to slowly improve, but Scheifele and the Jets top line will look to make an impact again tonight against the Red Wings.
Red Wing player to watch: Lucas Raymond
The 4th overall pick from the 2020 NHL Draft continues to produce at over a 0.82 points per game pace in his career. Raymond’s career high in goals is 31 back in 2023-24, and currently he’s almost on track to match or exceed that number. In 50 games this season, Raymond has 17 goals and 39 assists for 56 points. The Jets will need to watch out for Raymond often (especially on the powerplay), who likes to set up Alex DeBrincat on the powerplay, who has an impressive 11 powerplay goals on the season.
Puck drop in Winnipeg is set for just after 6:00 pm CST. Tonight’s game will be another chance for the Jets to get out of the bottom five in the league standings, so they’d like to continue their recent success against this Atlantic Division opponent. Stay tuned here at Jets Nation for a recap of the action, as the Jets look for a Saturday night triumph.
