Hockey Canada has extended invitations to a pair of Winnipeg Jets for their 2026 Winter Olympics summer orientation camp, set to take place in Calgary from August 26–28.

Defenceman Josh Morrissey and forward Mark Scheifele will join 40 other NHLers at the camp, which serves as a key step in Team Canada’s preparation for the 2026 Games in Milan and Cortina.

Both Morrissey and Scheifele were in the conversation earlier this year during the 4 Nations Face-Off. Scheifele was placed on Team Canada’s “alert” list — a standby role in case of injury — due to Sidney Crosby’s uncertain status with an upper-body injury. Morrissey, meanwhile, suited up for the tournament but missed the championship game against the United States due to illness.

“In the morning, I felt fine at the morning skate. Maybe not perfect, but fine,” Morrissey told reporters. “Then in the afternoon… it started to go sideways. I won’t get into any more detail than that. But I tried to get things to subside. The team doc — we did everything possible. To me, that was the biggest game of my life and I didn’t want to miss it.”

Despite the setback, the Jets’ top defenceman clearly left an impression.
