The Winnipeg Jets announced today that goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has been named one of three finalists for the 2024-25 Vezina Trophy, awarded annually “to the goaltender adjudged to be the best at his position.”
Hellebuyck, who previously won the Vezina Trophy in 2020 and 2024, delivered a dominant regular season. He led all qualified NHL goaltenders in wins (47), shutouts (8), goals-against average (2.00), and games played (T-1st: 60). The Commerce, Michigan native also ranked in the NHL’s top five in save percentage (2nd: .925), saves (4th: 1,539), and minutes played (2nd: 3,741).
He was a driving force behind the Jets’ historic season, helping the team capture its first-ever Presidents’ Trophy for the most points in the NHL. Hellebuyck also shared the William M. Jennings Trophy, awarded to the goaltender (minimum 25 games played) on the team that allowed the fewest goals during the regular season.
The 31-year-old allowed one goal or fewer in 26 of his starts and recorded an eight-game winning streak from Jan. 22–Feb. 26, 2025, as well as an 11-game point streak (9-0-2) from Dec. 5, 2024–Jan. 2, 2025.
Selected by Winnipeg in the fifth round (130th overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft, Hellebuyck is a Vezina Trophy finalist for the third consecutive season and fifth time overall (winner in 2019-20 and 2023-24; finalist in 2017-18 and 2022-23).
However, Hellebuyck has faced challenges in the early stages of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs. In Winnipeg’s first-round series against the St. Louis Blues—now tied 2-2—he has been pulled in two consecutive games. In Game 3, Hellebuyck allowed six goals before being replaced, and in Game 4, he was pulled early in the third period after surrendering five goals on just 18 shots. Over those two outings, he has given up 11 goals on 43 shots.
It’s a surprising contrast to his stellar regular season, where he led the NHL in both goals-against average and save percentage and entered the playoffs as a favourite for the Vezina Trophy.
Hellebuyck and the Jets will look to rebound in a pivotal Game 5 on Wednesday night in Winnipeg.
