On Monday, March 31st, the NHL announced that Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has been named the NHL’s Third Star of the Week for the period ending March 30th.
Hellebuyck started the week with a 29-save, 3-2 overtime win against the Washington Capitals on Tuesday. He followed that up with a 24-save shutout in Friday’s 4-0 victory over the New Jersey Devils. He capped off his stellar week by stopping 24 shots in a 3-1 win against the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday. The reigning Vezina Trophy winner finished the week with a 3-0-0 record, a shutout, a 1.00 GAA, and a .961 SV%.
Hellebuyck’s shutout against New Jersey was his seventh of the season, breaking his own franchise record for most in a single season. It was also his 44th career shutout, tying Ryan Miller for the second-most by an American-born goaltender in NHL history.
The Michigan native currently leads all NHL goaltenders in wins (43) and shutouts (7), while his GAA (2.01) and SV% (.925) are the best among goalies with more than 25 games played. Hellebuyck, who captured his second Vezina Trophyand first William Jennings Trophy last season, was also named to the NHL’s First All-Star Team for 2023-24.
This is the fourth time this season and eighth time in his career that Hellebuyck has been selected as one of the NHL’s Three Stars of the Week. He is the Jets’ fifth weekly selection in 2024-25 and was previously the Third Star of the Month for November, while his fellow Michigan-born teammate Kyle Connor earned Second Star of the Month honours in October.
Hellebuyck will look to continue his dominance on Tuesday, as the Jets kick off a three-game road trip against the Los Angeles Kings. Puck drop is set for 9:30 p.m. CT, and the game will be available to watch on TSN3.
