The Winnipeg Jets could prove to be a value play as they’re getting plus money at home against an opponent who might regress sooner rather than later. The Jets are +115 home underdogs while the Vegas Golden Knights are -135 away favourites with a 6.0-goal total on the NHL odds for Friday at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
The Jets are 3-6 as a home underdog this season, but have won two of the last three matchups, and they are 5-2 at home against the Pacific Division this season with the total finishing UNDER six times at online betting sites. The Golden Knights are 9-1 in their last 10 games as a favorite but are 5-7 in their last 12 games against the Central Division with the total finishing UNDER eight times.
Golden Knights at Jets | OddsShark Matchup Report
The Golden Knights lead the Pacific with a 37-23-8 record as they begin an 11-day, five-game road trip in Winnipeg. With centers Paul Stastny and William Karlsson leading a balanced attack, Vegas ranks first out of 31 NHL teams in five-on-five shot-attempt percentage (54.5 percent), although their power play and capability to finish around the net could be compromised with right wing Mark Stone (lower-body injury) sidelined. The Golden Knights are 12th in goals scored (3.18 per game) and 13th in goals against (2.94). On special teams, Vegas has the league’s eighth-best power play (21.4 percent) and the penalty killing unit is ranked 22nd (77.7).
Marc-Andre Fleury, who has a 26-15-5 record with a 2.76 goals-against average and .906 save percentage, will start in goal for Vegas. Fleury has a 3.60 GAA and .883 save percentage in 11 games this season against the Central Division, which are his poorest numbers against any division.
The Jets are hanging around the wild card race with a 34-28-6 record and have gone 3-4 in their last seven outings as an underdog, according to the OddsShark NHL Databsae. They have also not lost by more than 1.5 goals in their last nine games as an underdog. Winnipeg, which ranks 21st in five-on-five shot-attempt percentage (48.6 percent), will need to count on goaltending and opportunistic offence led by the likes of Mark Scheifele, Kyle Connor and Blake Wheeler to compete with Vegas. The Jets are 19th in goals scored (2.96) and 12th in goals against (2.90). On special teams, Winnipeg’s power play is ranked 16th (19.9 percent) and the penalty killing unit ranks 23rd (77.1).
Connor Hellebuyck, who has a 28-21-5 record with a 2.64 goals-against average and .920 save percentage, is in line to get the goaltending start for the Jets. Hellebuyck has been tough against Pacific Division foes, with a 2.08 GAA and .939 save percentage over 14 games.
The Jets host the Arizona Coyotes on Monday before taking a three-game western Canada road trip to face the Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks.
