The Winnipeg Jets look to close out their three-game homestand on a winning note as they take on the Utah Mammoth at Canada Life Centre on Sunday evening.
Winnipeg got back in the win column Friday night with a 5-3 victory over the Calgary Flames. Calgary held a 1-0 lead heading into the second period until Kyle Connor broke the Jets’ four-period scoreless drought to tie the game 1–1. Jonathan Toews gave Winnipeg the lead with his first goal at home as a Jet, and Gabriel Vilardi followed with his first of the season on the power play to make it 3-1. Alex Iafallo restored the Jets’ two-goal cushion with another power-play marker, putting them up 4-2 heading into the second intermission. Calgary’s Blake Coleman cut the lead to one, but Vladislav Namestnikov sealed the win with an empty-net goal. Eric Comrie made 30 saves in the victory.
Utah enters Manitoba’s capital riding a six-game winning streak they’ll look to extend. The Mammoth are on the second half of a back-to-back after a dominant 6-2 win over the Minnesota Wild on Saturday night. Logan Cooley and Nick Schmaltz each scored twice, while Karel Vejmelka turned aside 33 shots.
Including tonight, the Jets and Mammoth will face off three times this season. Winnipeg will visit Utah for the remaining two meetings, set for December 21 and April 14 at the Delta Center.
