The six-game road trip continues tonight for the Winnipeg Jets as they head to Vancouver to face the Canucks in a Remembrance Day Canadian clash at Rogers Arena, looking to finally salvage two points after a disastrous start to the trip.
Winnipeg spent the first half of the trip in California, where they went 0-3, wrapping up the swing with a 4-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday. Kyle Connor scored the Jets’ lone goal, his ninth of the season and the 600th point of his NHL career. Eric Comrie turned aside 17 shots in the loss.
“Put it this way, nothing is feeling easy,” said defenceman Luke Schenn after the loss in Anaheim. “We definitely are in a dog fight here. We’ve got to clean it up on the fly, there’s not a lot of practice time, not a lot of time to sit back and dwell on the last game. You’ve just got to pick it up and be positive. No finger-pointing. Just one shift at a time and try to get this thing going in the right direction.”
Vancouver closes out a four-game homestand tonight after going 1-1-1 in the first three, most recently falling 5-4 in overtime to the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday. Kiefer Sherwood scored his team-leading 10th goal of the season, while Kevin Lankinen stopped 27 of 32 shots.
Much like the Jets, the Canucks are dealing with their fair share of injuries. Winnipeg has welcomed back Adam Lowry and Cole Perfetti, but remains without Gustav Nyquist, Morgan Barron, and Dylan Samberg. Vancouver’s injury list is even longer, featuring Teddy Blueger, Filip Chytil, Derek Forbort, Nils Höglander, Jonathan Lekkerimäki, Victor Mancini, Guillaume Brisebois, and goaltender Thatcher Demko.
Tonight marks the first of three meetings between the two Canadian clubs this season. Winnipeg will return to Vancouver on Feb. 25, while the Canucks make their lone visit to Canada Life Centre on March 7.
