The Winnipeg Jets continue their season-long six-game road trip tonight in San Jose, taking on the Sharks at SAP Center.
Winnipeg opened the trip Tuesday night in Los Angeles, where captain Adam Lowry made his season debut following hip surgery back in May. The Jets couldn’t solve Kings goaltender Darcy Kuemper, who made 23 saves to backstop L.A. to a 3-0 win. Connor Hellebuyck turned aside 23 shots in what marked Winnipeg’s second shutout loss of the season.
“I didn’t expect to feel my best or be as sharp as I’d like to be. But I felt like as the game progressed, I started to handle the puck a little more. My reads started to get better. And, felt like I was starting to get my legs under me,” said Lowry reflecting on his first game back.
San Jose is coming off a dominant 6-1 victory over the Seattle Kraken on Wednesday night at Climate Pledge Arena. Young stars Macklin Celebrini (1G, 2A) and Will Smith (1G, 1A) combined for five points, while Yaroslav Askarov stopped 29 shots in the win.
Tonight marks the first of three meetings between the two Western Conference clubs this season. They’ll meet again in San Jose on March 1 before wrapping up the season series in Winnipeg on April 16. The Jets are 12-5-3 in their past 20 games against the Sharks and have won five straight matchups.
