From one orange team to the next, the Winnipeg Jets head to Philadelphia to close out their two-game Eastern Conference road trip with a matchup against the Flyers at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
Winnipeg earned its second consecutive win on Monday on Long Island, downing the New York Islanders 5–2. It was a complete team effort, as all five goals came from different players, including unexpected names like Tanner Pearson and Logan Stanley, who both tallied for the first time this season. Eric Comrie made his first start of the year and turned in a strong performance, stopping 33 of 35 shots for a .943 save percentage (SV%).
Philadelphia, meanwhile, is coming off a 5–2 upset win over the two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers in their home opener Monday. Sean Couturier led the way with two goals and two assists, while goaltender Dan Vladar stopped 24 of 26 shots for a .923 SV%.
With all the injuries the Jets have dealt with early on, the contributions from their depth players have been crucial.
“We’ve talked about our depth being very important, but man oh man, we didn’t want it to be (tested) this quick,” Jets head coach Scott Arniel said, praising his team’s effort on Long Island. “When they can be productive and help on the offensive side of things, that’s a real good sign.”
Cole Koepke, who left Monday’s game after blocking a shot, was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice. Haydn Fleury, injured after blocking a shot on Saturday, was also on the ice but remains day-to-day.
Projected lineup (subject to change):
Connor – Scheifele – Vilardi
Iafallo – Toews – Pearson
Niederreiter – Namestnikov – Nyquist
Koepke – Barron – Chibrikov
Morrissey – DeMelo
Stanley – Pionk
Fleury – Schenn
Hellebuyck
Comrie
