The Winnipeg Jets hit the road for their longest trip of the season tonight as they face the Los Angeles Kings for the first time this year at Crypto.com Arena.
Winnipeg will look to extend its winning streak to four after a 5-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday afternoon at Canada Life Centre. Gabriel Vilardi opened the scoring just 15 seconds in with his fifth of the season, while Brad Lambert netted his first career NHL goal to make it 2-0 in the first period. Vladislav Namestnikov added his sixth of the year early into the second, and Kyle Connor buried a shorthanded penalty shot to extend the lead to 4-0. The Penguins mounted some pushback, but Connor sealed the win with an empty-netter for his second of the night as the Jets secured their third straight victory while Eric Comrie made 28 saves.
The L.A. Kings are looking to bounce back after a 4-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils on home ice Saturday night. Andrei Kuzmenko scored his third of the season and Darcy Kuemper made 18 stops in the loss. They’ll look to regroup as they’ve still got two more at home, including tonight, before heading onto the road for 6 games.
Some good news and bad news was revealed Monday before the Jets hopped onto the plane to California. The good news is that Jets captain Adam Lowry is expected to make his season debut tonight in L.A., while the bad news is that Morgan Barron is week-to-week and Gustav Nyquist is day-to-day.
Scott Arniel also hinted at Cole Perfetti and Dylan Samberg potentially playing on the road trip as they are travelling with the team on the trip.
Projected lineup (subject to change):
Connor – Scheifele – Vilardi
Namestnikov – Toews – Iafallo
Niederreiter – Lowry – Pearson
Koepke – Ford – Lambert
Morrissey – DeMelo
Stanley – Pionk
Miller – Schenn
