The Winnipeg Jets got back in the win column on Tuesday night with a 5-3 win in Vancouver against the Canucks. The now 10-6-0 Winnipeg Jets are down to 2 games left on their season long six game road trip, and tonight they will pay a visit to the 7-4-5 Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena. Connor Hellebuyck was fantastic in net, the Jets got scoring throughout their lineup, and Josh Morrissey recorded another multi point night in the 5-3 win against the Canucks. Tonight’s opponent features another Pacific Division team that has had its own struggles at scoring goals, with the Kraken’s leading scorers Jordan Eberle and Jaden Schwartz tied with only 5 goals each.
The injury report for the Jets was getting close to “empty”, but over the past 2 days three new names were added. Dylan Samberg remains the only Jet still getting closer to his season debut, as he continues to practice in a non-contact jersey. Gustav Nyquist and Morgan Barron are still listed as day-to-day, as they both continue to get closer to returning to the lineup from their undisclosed injuries. Yesterday, Haydn Fleury and Cole Koepke were added to the injury report and are listed as day-to-day after they were both injured last game.
The Kraken injury report is much better than it was just recently, with only one new name added last week. Max McCormick is out for the season (since pre-season), Jared McCann remains out without a firm timeline since the end of October, and goaltender Joey Daccord was added to the injury report on November 8th with an undisclosed injury.
Jets Projected Lineup
Connor – Scheifele – Vilardi
Namestnikov – Toews – Perfetti
Niederreiter – Lowry – Iafallo
Pearson – Ford – Chibrikov
Morrissey – DeMelo
Stanley – Pionk
Fleury/Miller – Schenn
Hellebuyck
Comrie
The unconfirmed starting goalie is Connor Hellebuyck, who will likely be making his 13th start of the season. Connor Hellebuyck has been keeping the Jets in close games recently, and he’s now up to a 7-5-0 record with a 2.35 GAA and a .921 SV%. With Koepke and Fleury’s status currently questionable, Nikita Chibrikov should be in tonight’s lineup, while Colin Miller will be ready to play on the 3rd pairing with Luke Schenn if Haydn Fleury isn’t good to go.
Kraken Lineup
Schwartz – Beniers – Kakko
Marchment – Stephenson – Eberle
Catton – Wright – Tolvanen
Kartye – Meyers – Winterton
Dunn – Larsson
Lindgren – Montour
Evans – Oleksiak
Murray
Grubauer
The Kraken lineup on paper looks a lot better than it did when the Kraken defeated the Jets 3-0 on October 23rd in Winnipeg. Looking at the Kraken’s stats through 16 games, every line has contributed, but only Jordan Eberle and Jaden Schwartz are in the double digits for points, with 11 each. Matt Murray is the unconfirmed starting goalie. Murray has been solid to start the season, posting a 0-2-1 record with a 2.12 GAA and a .926 SV%. As long as Joey Daccord remains injured, Murray will get a chance to share the net with Phillip Grubauer for the next stretch of games.
Jets player to watch: Josh Morrissey
Nobody has been on more of a roll on the Jets lately than Josh Morrissey. The Jets top defender is playing like the elite defenceman he is, posting multiple multi-point games already. Morrissey is now up to 16 points in 16 games. The Jets top pairing of Morrissey and Dylan DeMelo has started picking up right where they left off last season, and the duo (especially Morrissey) has played a big role in most of the Jets wins this season.
Kraken player to watch: Brandon Montour
Every time the Kraken play, the dynamic Brandon Montour is a player to keep an eye out on. After returning from injury, Montour has 3 goals and 6 assists for 9 points in 12 games. Montour is a +4, and his current pairing with Ryan Lindgren has worked well in shutting down opponents and creating offence. Montour will be on the Kraken’s 2nd powerplay unit, where he likes to create space and get shots on goal as often as possible.
Puck drop is set for just after 9:00 pm CT tonight as it’ll be another late one for fans watching in Winnipeg. Jets fans will hopefully be able to celebrate a 2nd straight win tonight as the Jets attempt to continue this road trip on a positive note. Tonight’s game is poised to a low scoring battle, with the usual exciting moments of a hockey game along the way. Stay tuned here at Jets Nation for a recap of the action, as the Jets look to improve to 11-6-0 on the season.
