Winnipeg Jets hockey will be played at Canada Life Centre tonight, Friday and on Sunday. The Winnipeg Jets are back in action tonight at home at 7 pm CT as they take on the Seattle Kraken. Mark Scheifele scored for the 5th straight game, Jonathan Toews scored his 1st as a Jet, and Connor Hellebuyck was lights out in net as he led the Jets to their 5th straight win, a 2-1 victory over the Calgary Flames on Monday. Tonight’s game is the first of three straight at home for the Jets, as they now look to extend their win streak to six games.
The injury report for the Jets remains similar, however there is some positive news. Cole Perfetti, out with an ankle injury, is slightly ahead of schedule in his recovery, as he’s now targeting a return in mid-November. Adam Lowry is also recovering well from his hip surgery, as he continues to be scheduled to return in late October or more likely early November. Morgan Barron was added to the injury report yesterday and is currently listed as day-to-day, likely making him unavailable for tonight’s game.
The Kraken’s injury report is quite lengthy, but despite all of their injuries they’ve still managed a solid 3-2-2 start to the season. Max McCormick is out for the season after undergoing hip surgery. Ryker Evans, Kaapo Kakko and Frederick Gaudreau are all out for various amounts of time with upper body injuries. Brandon Montour is out due to personal reasons, and just added yesterday to the injury report was Mason Marchment and Jared McCann, who are both listed as day-to-day.
Jets Projected Lineup
Connor – Scheifele – Vilardi
Niederreiter – Toews – Nyquist
Iafallo – Namestnikov – Lambert
Koepke – Pearson – Ford
Morrissey – DeMelo
Stanley – Pionk
Fleury – Schenn
Hellebuyck
Comrie
The unconfirmed starting goalie is Connor Hellebuyck, who had maybe his best start of the season (so far) on Monday, making 32 saves on 33 shots. Eric Comrie will very likely get the start on Friday or Sunday if he doesn’t start tonight, as the team would like to reward Comrie with another start after his strong play in his one and only start. Tanner Pearson is not a natural centre, but he may be tasked with faceoff and centre duties on the 4th line tonight. Nino Niederreiter has been bumped up to the 2nd line after some strong performances, and Parker Ford will likely make his 3rd appearance of the early season, matching the amount of games he played in the NHL last season.
Kraken Lineup
Catton – Beniers – Eberle
Schwartz – Stephenson – Tolvanen
Winterton – Wright – Nyman
Kartye – Meyers – Hayden
Dunn – Larsson
Mahura – Oleksiak
Lindgren – Fleury
Daccord
Murray
The Kraken’s most dynamic line is their top line, which features two projected future stars and their Captain Jordan Eberle. Shifting to the blue line, and aside from Vince Dunn, most of the Kraken’s defencemen have a defense first approach to their play style. Looking at the Kraken’s stats through 7 games, their 2nd line has been the most productive. Stephenson and Schwartz are tied for the team lead (with 2 others) for points with 5. Joey Daccord is the unconfirmed starting goalie. Daccord has been pretty average to start the season, posting a 3-1-1 record with a 3.09 GAA and a .889 SV%.
Jets player to watch: Nino Niederreiter
The Jets 2nd line will have a slightly newer look tonight, as Niederreiter joins Toews and Nyquist in the top 6 forward group. Niederreiter has played up and down throughout the Jets lineup before, so there’s a good chance he’ll be able to adapt to the roles that he is given throughout the night. In the last 4 games, Niederreiter has recorded 6 points, moving him up to 3rd in points on the Jets. The 33-year old is exceeding exceptions through 6 games, and it’ll be worth keeping an eye on him to see if he can continue to get his name on the scoresheet.
Kraken player to watch: Shane Wright
The Kraken’s 3rd line is one of the youngest line combinations in the NHL. Shane Wright (21) is centering a 21-year old 2022 2nd round pick in Jani Nyman and a 22-year old 2021 3rd round pick in Ryan Winterton. This line features a great mix of size and skill, and Wright has been producing well through 7 games in his 2nd full NHL season. Wright has 2 goals and 2 assists in 7 games, and when you watch highlights from any of the Kraken’s first 7 games, you can tell that Wright looks more comfortable out there as he looks to build off a 44 point 2024-25 season.
Puck drop is set for just after 7:00 pm CT. Jets fans will hopefully be able to celebrate their Thursday night with another Jets victory on home ice as they debut their heritage jerseys. Stay tuned here at Jets Nation for a recap of the action, as the Jets look to win their sixth straight game.
