Tonight the Jets will play their final home game at Canada Life Centre in 2025. The Jets suffered their 2nd straight 4-3 OT loss on Saturday against the Wild. This time the Jets had the lead, but lost it in the final minute before losing in the 1st minute of overtime. One of the Pacific Divisions’ best teams, the Edmonton Oilers, travel to Winnipeg, currently on a solid 6-3-1 stretch in their last 10 games. Meanwhile, the Jets are a disappointing 2-5-3 in their last 10 games.
The still 30th overall 15-17-4 Winnipeg Jets and now 13th overall 19-14-6 Oilers will clash on this Monday night on Amazon Prime, with these two teams trending in different directions. We’re closing in on the half way point of the season, and there’s still not much separation between the “good” and “bad” teams in terms of the NHL league standings.
The Winnipeg Jets and Edmonton Oilers have met once already this regular season, in Edmonton on December 6th. The Jets lost 6-2 that game, and after tonight, the season series concludes on January 8th also in Winnipeg. The Jets are 5-4-1 in their last 10 games against the Oilers, with most of the games ending as a high scoring contest.
The injury report for the Winnipeg Jets now has one key name: Josh Morrissey. During the game against the Wild, Morrissey was hit from behind, and has been listed as “day to day” with an undisclosed injury. The Oilers continue to have some injury problems, with four players listed on their injury report. All four injuries appear to be short-term, with Kasperi Kapanen, Jake Walman, Tristan Jarry and Connor Clattenburg all expected to return to the lineup before January 6th.
Jets Projected Lineup
Connor – Scheifele – Vilardi
Perfetti – Namestnikov – Iafallo
Barron – Lowry – Pearson
Niederreiter – Toews – Nyquist
Fleury – DeMelo
Samberg – Pionk
Stanley – Schenn
Hellebuyck
Comrie
The unconfirmed starting goalie is once again Connor Hellebuyck, who continues to get the nod in goal. After Hellebuyck’s most recent start, he now holds a 9-8-3 record with a 2.55 GAA and a .908 SV%. The rest of the Jets lineup appears mostly unchanged, with the exception of Haydn Fleury in Josh Morrissey’s spot and Luke Schenn on the 3rd pairing where Colin Miller was previously playing. As usual, there could be some announced lineup changes by the Jets prior to the game, so make sure to stay tuned to the Jets official X/Twitter account for any late lineup additions or changes prior to puck drop.
Oilers Projected Lineup
Nugent-Hopkins – McDavid – Hyman
Podkolzin – Draisaitl – Savoie
Frederic – Roslovic – Janmark
Mangiapane – Henrique – Lazar
Ekholm – Bouchard
Nurse – Regula
Stastney – Emberson
Pickard
Ingram
The Oilers lineup has some notable players out with injuries, but it still features several young talents and some newer additions to the lineup that continue to adapt to their new roles. Looking at the Oilers’ player stats through 39 games, Connor McDavid leads the way with a league leading 68 points. Calvin Pickard is the unconfirmed starting goalie. Pickard hasn’t started as many games as he’d like so far this season, but he has struggled behind Stuart Skinner and now Tristan Jarry. Connor Ingram is sharing starts with Pickard while Jarry is out, and Pickard holds a 3-5-2 record with a 3.92 GAA, 0 shutouts and a .861 SV%.
Jets player to watch: Adam Lowry
Tonight the player to watch from each team will be the Captain. Adam Lowry hasn’t had his best season in 2025-26, struggling to return to full form after his off-season surgery. In 24 games, Lowry has just 1 goal and 4 assists for 5 points. The scoring isn’t there yet for Lowry, but if you pay close attention to the little things he does, Lowry has excelled in doing what most people won’t notice easily. Lowry continues to be a leader on this team, and it’s only a matter of time before he re-gains his scoring touch to help the Jets with some much needed depth scoring.
Oilers player to watch: Connor McDavid
There’s no stopping Connor McDavid right now, there’s only hoping you can limit him to not be as elite as he always tends to be. In the last 5 games, McDavid has 12 points, and now leads the league with 68 points. Every time McDavid is on the ice, the Oilers seem to find a way of producing chances on the attack. The Jets will of course need to also watch out for McDavid’s speed, ensuring they have someone capable of backchecking him when he brings the puck in on the rush. Keep an eye on McDavid tonight, as the Jets attempt to slow down the league’s top player in the 2025-26 season.
Puck drop in Winnipeg is set for just after 6:30 pm CST. Tonight’s game will be the Jets’ 2nd last game of 2025, so they’d like to end their year with two wins, starting tonight against another tough opponent. Stay tuned here at Jets Nation for a recap of the action, as the Jets look to win this Central Division matchup.
