Winnipeg Jets head coach Scott Arniel confirmed earlier today that Elias Salomonsson will miss Friday night’s preseason game in Edmonton due to an illness.
Salomonsson was scheduled to take part in the morning skate Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. CDT at the hockey for all centre before the team flew to Edmonton. However, he did not appear on the ice. After the session, Arniel revealed that Salomonsson was sick and would not be joining the team for the rematch against the Oilers at Rogers Place.
With Salomonsson out, the Jets will bring along seven defencemen instead of eight. Here’s the full game group without him:
Forwards (13): Vladislav Namestnikov, Alex Iafallo, Samuel Fagemo, Morgan Barron, David Gustafsson, Cole Koepke, Colby Barlow, Danny Zhilkin, Nino Niederreiter, Jacob Julien, Tanner Pearson, Phillip Di Giuseppe, Brad Lambert
Defencemen (7): Isaak Phillips, Haydn Fleury, Ville Heinola, Ashton Sautner, Logan Stanley, Tyrel Bauer, Dawson Barteaux
Goaltenders (2): Isaac Poulter, Domenic DiVincentiis
Salomonsson had been expected to appear in his third consecutive preseason game, leaving Lambert as the only Jet making his third straight appearance. Lambert, who recorded two assists against Edmonton on Tuesday, will look to continue his momentum in Friday’s contest.
Arniel also confirmed that goaltender Domenic DiVincentiis will play the full game, rather than splitting time as the Jets did Sunday against Minnesota. Winnipeg native Isaac Poulter will back him up.
Scott Arniel told us that the plan is for Dom DiVincentiis to start in net and play the entirety of tonight's game for the #NHLJets.
Puck drop is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. CDT, and the game will be broadcast on TSN3.
