On Wednesday, November 27th, the Manitoba Moose announced that they have named forward Dominic Toninato as the team’s 12th captain in franchise history.
Toninato, who is the third American-born player to be named captain of the Moose, will wear the ‘C,’ joined by defenceman Ashton Sautner and forward Mason Shaw as alternate captains.
Toninato, 30, was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2012, going 126th overall in the 5th round. He has spent time in the NHL with the Colorado Avalanche and Florida Panthers before signing with the Winnipeg Jets organization as a free agent in 2020.
The Minnesota native split his time between the NHL and AHL last season. He recorded 20 points (7G, 13A) in 37 games played with the Moose, and 5 points (1G, 4A) in 15 games with the Jets.
Toninato has played for four AHL clubs, including the Manitoba Moose, Colorado Eagles, San Antonio Rampage (now Henderson Silver Knights), and Springfield Thunderbirds. Over his time with these teams, he has recorded 115 points (60G, 55A) in 210 games played.
