The Manitoba Moose are set to kick off their 2025-26 AHL season this Friday when they welcome the Laval Rocket to Canada Life Centre, and one question already looms: who will get the starting goaltender job to open the campaign?
With the 2025 Prospect Showdown in Montreal just a couple of weeks ago and the NHL preseason wrapping up, we’ve gotten a close look at several Winnipeg Jets goaltending pieces. Domenic DiVincentiis and Alex Worthington saw action at the Prospect Showdown, while DiVincentiis, Thomas Milic, and Isaac Poulter all got ice time during the NHL preseason. All three are competing for spots with the Moose.
DiVincentiis was the standout performer. At the Prospect Showdown, he stopped 40+ shots against a strong Montreal Canadiens prospect squad, leading the Jets to a 4-3 regulation win. The Bolton, Ontario native also appeared in one preseason game, a 4-0 loss to the Edmonton Oilers, but despite facing just 20 shots, he made several critical stops, including on a couple of 2-on-1s.
Milic, who is trying to regain confidence after a turbulent season bouncing between the Moose and Norfolk Admirals, also showed flashes of promise. In the Jets’ preseason opener against Minnesota, he faced only eight shots before Poulter took over in the third period, but he looked poised in net.
Milic’s competition for the backup role likely comes down to Worthington, who had a strong showing at the Prospect Showdown, helping the Jets edge the Ottawa Senators prospects 3-2 in overtime.
Much like last season, it seems the Moose will rely on a combination of youngsters as DiVincentiis and Milic aim for bounce-back campaigns. After a franchise-worst season, the Moose are looking to return to playoff contention, but it will all start with solid goaltending.
