Jets Nation, get ready for some Saturday night hockey. The Winnipeg Jets are back in action tonight at home as they take on the Nashville Predators. Mark Scheifele scored twice (again) and Connor Hellebuyck was solid in helping lead the Jets to their 3rd straight win, a 5-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers. Tonight’s game is the first of four out of the next 5 games at home for the Jets, as they now look to extend their win streak to four games.
The injury report for the Jets remains relatively the same. After the most recent Jets roster moves, Adam Lowry, Cole Perfetti and Dylan Samberg continue to be the three Jets regulars out of the lineup. The Predators injury report is very short, as the team has so far avoided any injuries to their key players. Nicolas Hague, who was acquired by the Predators in the off-season, is the only player listed on the Predators injury reserve as of October 17th. Here’s tonight projected lineups.
Jets Lineup
Connor – Scheifele – Vilardi
Iafallo – Toews – Pearson
Niederreiter – Namestnikov – Nyquist
Koepke – Barron – Ford
Morrissey – DeMelo
Stanley – Pionk
Fleury – Schenn
Hellebuyck
Comrie
The unconfirmed starting goalie will once again be Connor Hellebuyck, who has bounced back nicely after a somewhat shaky first start against the Stars. Eric Comrie will likely get the start on Monday or Thursday if he doesn’t start tonight, as the team would like to reward Comrie with another start after his strong play last time in net. Tanner Pearson started the season on the 4th line, but has since been bumped to the 2nd line after some strong performances. Parker Ford made his season debut last game, and will look to get on the scoresheet with a 4th line that has contributed early in the season.
Predators Lineup
Forsberg – O’Reilly – Stamkos
Jost – Svechkov – Evangelista
Bunting – Haula – Marchessault
Smith – McCarron – Wiesblatt
Wilsby – Josi
Skjei – Perbix
Stastney – Barron
Saros
Annunen
The Predators dynamic top forward line will be key to shutdown for the Jets. Star defenceman Roman Josi is tied with Haula and Marchessault with 4 points in 5 games. Looking at the Predators stats through 4 games, most of the lineup has at least 1 point already, meaning there’s scoring depth throughout the lineup. Juuse Saros is the unconfirmed starting goalie. Saros has been sharp to start the season, posting a 2-0-2 record with a 1.94 GAA and a .935 SV%.
Jets player to watch: Gabriel Vilardi
The Jets top line contines to look in mid-season form through four games, including Gabe Vilardi. Although Vilardi still hasn’t scored yet this season, his play on the top line has been noticeable. Now with 4 assists through 4 games, Vilardi should be the Jets player to watch closely tonight, as he hopes to turn his shots on goal into some goals on that Jets top line.
Predators player to watch: Roman Josi
Josi is a dynamic defenceman who needs to be on the Jets radar right from puck drop. Averaging 25 minutes of ice time a game, Josi plays in various situations on a nightly basis. Josi sits at 4 points in 5 games, and his 12 shots on goal (mostly from the point) are the 3rd most on the Predators. The Jets shot blockers will need to be ready for his shots from the point, as they’ve proven to be dangerous in the past.
Puck drop is set for just after 6:00 pm CT. Jets fans will hopefully be able to celebrate their Saturday night with another Jets victory on home ice. Stay tuned here at Jets Nation for a recap of the action, as the Jets look to win their fourth straight game.
