As the 2026 Winter Olympics wind down, it’s time to shift focus back to Jetsland. Fortunately for goaltender Connor Hellebuyck and forward Kyle Connor, they’ll return to Winnipeg with gold around their necks after Team USA’s 2-1 overtime win over Canada in Sunday’s gold medal game.
For Josh Morrissey, it was a silver medal with Team Canada, though he only played one period of Olympic hockey before suffering an upper-body injury. He’ll continue to miss time, including the Jets’ first game back from the break on Wednesday in Vancouver against the Canucks.
Murat Ates later reported that Team USA, including Hellebuyck and Connor, will visit the White House on Tuesday. As a result, Hellebuyck will not play Wednesday, and Connor’s availability remains uncertain.
That helps explain why the Jets recalled goaltender Domenic DiVincentiis from the Manitoba Moose on Monday after briefly sending him back to the AHL on Sunday to start against the Iowa Wild. While DiVincentiis may have initially been a placeholder at practice, he’ll now travel on the three-game road trip to back up Eric Comrie, and could potentially earn his first NHL start between the pipes.

On TSN’s First Up on Monday, Darren Dreger indicated that Morrissey will be sidelined for an extended period of time.
“…by the way Josh Morrissey is going to miss a good chunk of time for the Winnipeg Jets. May not be a big deal because where the Jets are positioned in the West, but that’s what I’m told, and Jets doctors are very eager to get a look at Josh Morrissey. Obviously the injury that he sustained was worse than what was expected or feared because he didn’t play, so he’s going to miss a chunk of time…”
Forward Nino Niederreiter, who represented Switzerland at the Olympics, also returned to practice with the team on Monday.
Olympian Nino Niederreiter will take part in today’s #NHLJets practice. Winnipeg’s first game back from the break is Wednesday in Vancouver.
It’ll be interesting to see how Winnipeg’s lineup shakes out Wednesday in what could be a one-off look before Connor and Hellebuyck return.
