Andrew Ladd in elite company for Mark Messier Leadership Award

May 5, 2015, 11:51 EDTUpdated: Invalid DateTime
Any time you’re mentioned in the same breath as Mark Messier, you know you’re in good company.
That’s the case for Winnipeg Jets captain Andrew Ladd, who is one of three finalists announced for the Mark Messier Leadership Award. Ladd is nominated alongside Jonathan Toews of the Chicago Blackhawks and Ryan Getzlaf of the Anaheim Ducks.
Let’s take a look after the jump.
Ladd has captained the team the last five seasons, set career highs in assists (38) and points (62) this year.

The special thing about this award is that it’s hand-picked by Messier himself. Toews and Getzlaf may be front-runners to win the award as both are still in contention for the Stanley Cup. However, Ladd — a two-time Cup champion himself — should not be ruled out.
Ladd is one of the primary reason the Jets were able to clinch a playoff berth, especially considering the team suffered key injuries down the stretch. He is also known for his hard work off the ice, where he commits much of his time to the Special Olympics and other charitable organizations.
The winner will be announced June 24 during the NHL Awards ceremony in Las Vegas.
