The Winnipeg Jets announced Wednesday that team captain Adam Lowry underwent successful hip surgery on Tuesday. The 32-year-old is expected to make a full recovery following a five-to-six-month rehabilitation period, likely sidelining him through the start of the 2025–26 regular season.
Lowry’s injury was not disclosed during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, where he suited up for all 13 of Winnipeg’s postseason games. He scored four goals — including the dramatic double-overtime winner in Game 7 of the first round against the St. Louis Blues — and posted a plus-2 rating while averaging 17:27 of ice time per game.
The Jets advanced to the second round before falling in six games to the Dallas Stars in the Central Division Final.
A vocal leader and key presence in the locker room, Lowry played a pivotal role in what was the most successful season in franchise history. Winnipeg captured the Presidents’ Trophy for the first time, finishing the regular season with the NHL’s best record. But the potential absence of their captain to start next season casts some early uncertainty over the Jets’ attempt to replicate that success.
During the regular season, Lowry recorded 16 goals and 18 assists for 34 points in 73 games. That production was slightly down from his previous two campaigns, each of which saw him top 35 points. He also missed more than a month due to an upper-body injury suffered just prior to the 4 Nations Face-Off break.
A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Lowry has spent his entire 11-year NHL career with Winnipeg. The former Swift Current Bronco has appeared in 775 games, tallying 121 goals and 152 assists for 273 points. He’s also added 24 points in 62 playoff contests.
Lowry was named team captain ahead of the 2024–25 season and will enter the final year of his five-year, $16.25 million contract in 2025–26. He is slated to become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
