The Jets continue their eastern road trip today against the Ottawa Senators, a team that has very much been in the spotlight this season for all the wrong reasons. This is a team that has struggled all the way down to the bottom of the standings, and might just be the antidote that the Jets need to get back on the right track Thursday’s “effort” in Montreal, and Tuesday’s overtime loss versus San Jose.

#29 Patrik Laine – Left Wing
It seems lately the entire city of Winnipeg has their own opinion on what’s wrong with Laine, how to fix him and what line he should actually be on. But the 20 year old Jet has quietly been improving his overall performance and that’s a step in the right direction. Laine’s shot generation is 3.37 per game this season against last year’s 2.94 and he’s still on pace for a 38 goal year. It’s only a matter of time before he gets back on the board. Why not against Ottawa?

Last Jets Game
Perhaps the best way to explain the last Jets game is by a quote from coach Paul Maurice, “Coach was no good. Players were no good. Food was no good. I just hope the plane works.” In fact, arguably the only Jet we can say showed up to the game at all was goaltender Connor Hellebuyck who stopped a grand total of 48 pucks. His heroics were the single reason the score was only 5-2, this should have been a blowout.
Jets Notebook
- It was recently announced that Kyle Connor was the Ephesus/AHL graduate of the month for January.
- Mathieu Perreault’s goal against San Jose on Feb 5th, marked a milestone for him of 300 points in the NHL
Senators Player To Watch
#61 Mark Stone – Right Wing
If you’ve paid any sort of attention to the trade rumors swirling lately, surely you’ve noticed this guy more or less at the top of the list. Ottawa has found itself in another situation similar to last year’s with Erik Karlsson, but this time with Mark Stone (as well as Matt Duchene). And with rumors of Winnipeg kicking tires on Stone, tonight is a great opportunity to sit down and see just what makes Mark Stone so valued going into the trade deadline. Mark stone is a point per game player who consistently puts up 20+ goals a season, but on top of this are his defensive abilities that have placed him near the top of the list of contenders for the Selke this year.
Last Senators Game
The Senators last played on Feb 7th against the Ducks, winning the game 4-0 and ultimately breaking a 5 game losing streak. It was a shutout night for Goalie Anders Nilsson, and another night of Ducks back up goalie Chad Johnson coming in for relief after for Jon Gibson. Senators goals came from Brady Tkachuk, Mark Stone and twice from Matt Duchene.
Senators Notebook
- On Feb 7th, Anders Nilsson became the 18th goalie in Senators history to record a shutout
- While we will most likely see Nilsson in net today, the next game played for Craig Anderson will be his 600th NHL career game
