Mathieu Perreault Calls Out Jets’ Goaltending

It’s not often that a player calls out his teammates in the media but that’s exactly what Mathieu Perreault did today when he spoke about the Jets needing to get better goaltending.

While you don’t exactly see this kind of finger pointing all that often in the NHL it doesn’t mean Perreault is wrong either. As a team, the Winnipeg Jets have the third-worst team save% in the NHL with four different goalies making starts, all with varying levels of success or lack thereof.

Connor Hellebuyck (56GP: 26-19-4) – 2.89 GAA – .907 save%
Michael Hutchinson (28GP: 9-12-3) – 2.92 GAA – .903 save%
Ondrej Pavelec (8GP: 4-4-0) – 3.55 GAA – .888 save%
Eric Comrie (1GP: 1-0-0) – 4.07 GAA – .897 save%

According to Hockey-Reference.com, the league average for save percentage in the NHL this is .913 which is clear of all three of the goalies listed. Needless to say, if the Jets want to get back to the postseason they’re going to have to ensure that they’re getting better performances in net. With the playoffs around the corner and the Jets on the outside looking in you would have to wonder what Kevin Cheval

With the playoffs around the corner and the Jets on the outside looking in once again you would have to wonder what Kevin Cheveldayoff can get done in the summer to solidify the goaltending position.
