Welcome to this week’s version of What Would You Do Wednesday where you are asked a question and debate among yourselves what the answer is. Unfortunately, the only prize you will receive will be the most Twitter mentions.
This week’s WWYDW follows the theme of Jets Nation and asks what should be done with Kyle Connor.
Take a read and let us know what you think!
The Jets have a good conundrum to be in. 2015 1st round pick Kyle Connor was eliminated from the NCAA tournament, which makes him eligible to leave Michigan and sign with the Jets, if he wishes. Connor was on a torrid scoring pace, posting similar numbers to Jack Eichel at the same age.
If the Jets are to take a step forward again for the 2016-17 season, they will need more scoring and better depth. Having a player like Kyle Connor on the roster not only provides all of this, but he would follow management’s mandate to get younger.
On top of this, Connor will be on an entry level contract. One of the ways Chicago has been able to stay competitive is by reloading support players with players on an ELC from their farm system. I’m not saying the Jets have the same elite core as Chicago. What I’m saying, that as a budget team, management has to be extremely smart and careful to get the most of their team with limited money.
What Would You Do Jets Nation?
I think you can guess where I stand. Jets need to sign Connor. Garret has also written a great article where he argues for the Jets to sign Connor. Another thing to be careful with is there is some uncertainty about what the expansion draft will look like. The Jets are in a good position, but there’s a minute chance Connor could be signed later because of draft rules.
Would you sign Connor now and burn 1 year of his ELC?
Sign him in the summer and keep his ELC at 3 years?
Don’t sign him, he needs another year of college hockey.
