Prized Winnipeg Jets prospect Nikolaj Ehlers was fortunate to escape Sunday’s Young Stars tournament game against the Vancouver Canucks without injury injury. In a scary first period incident, Ehlers was boarded by Canucks prospect Jordan Subban.

It’s a testbook boarding call, but I’d suggest that it looks significantly worse than Subban intended it too because of the timing of Ehlers’ pivot. The two had been engaged in a physical battle all shift long, and Ehlers had withstood several cross-checks in the corner (before the battle transitioned into the slot, and ultimately behind the net) with no apparent effect.
Fortunately Ehlers finished the period and returned to the bench for the second period – apparently no worse for wear.
In the wake of the hit, Jets fourth-line hopeful Brendan Lemieux jumped Subban and peppered him with a variety of hard punches – earning a two-minute roughing minor for his efforts.
