JGD #55: When Will The Losing Skid End?

After a tough loss to the Chicago Blackhawks in overtime on Friday, the Winnipeg Jets will look to rebound and snap their six game losing streak this evening against the Colorado Avalanche at the MTS Center.

Tonight’s game will mark the fourth of five meetings between the two clubs and Winnipeg has won the first two meetings dating back on Oct. 25 and Dec. 5. Colorado won the last game in the shootout on Dec. 11 with Nathan MacKinnon netting the game winning goal.

The Avs enter tonight’s contest having lost the night before to the Minnesota Wild by a score of 1-0. Colorado currently sits sixth in the Central Division with 55 points, while Winnipeg has 62 points, which is good enough for the first Wild Card position in the West. Calgary is right behind the Jets with 61 points.

Mark Scheifele was the lone Winnipeg goal scorer on Friday in the first period. Mathieu Perreault assisted his eighth goal of the 2014-15 regular season. Dustin Byfuglien remains up front with Evander Kane out long-term after having surgery.

Like noted above, Byfuglien will remain as a forward and Adam Pardy will stick with Ben Chiarot on the backend.

Michael Hutchinson started last game for the Jets, so it’s unclear who we will see between the pipes tonight. Hutchinson has a record of 14-7-3 this season, with 2.33 GAA and .923 SV%.

Forward Alex Tanguy currently leads the Avs in points with 34, and Jarome Iginla is right behind him with 33. Like on Friday, the Jets will need to find a way to shut down the Avs top guys, something they failed to do against the Pittsburgh Penguins where Sidney Crosby found the scoresheet more than once.

The Avs are really hurting on the blueline with Erik Johnson, Tyson Barrie and Ryan Wilson all sidelined with injuries. The Jets need to try and capitalize with these injuries and get a ton of pucks to the net.

Semyon Varlamov has been confirmed the starter for the Avs. Varlamov has played 32 games this season, going 14-11-7, 2.55 GAA and .924 SV%.

Game Day Predictions: It’s been six games and we haven’t seen the Jets win. So I think tonight’s the night they snap the skid. Winnipeg 4 – Colorado 3

Obvious Predictions: The Jets need to stay out of the penalty box. Ok?

Not So Obvious Predictions: The broadcast may or may not mention Evander Kane and the situation between him and the Jets more than once tonight.
