Report: Winnipeg Jets re-assign 16 players

The Jets website announced that the Winnipeg Jets have re-assigned sixteen players from training camp.

The sixteen cut brings down the Jets training camp roster from 44 to 28 (27 after excluding Grant Clitsome). Fourteen of the players move from the NHL to the AHL camp, while two were sent back to their Canadian major junior team.

Take a deep breath Jets fans, this was just a preseason game, a really bad preseason game against a Wild team full of vets.

JGD Preseason #4: Jets Fly Into Minny

It's a Sunday preseason showdown between Central division rivals as the Jets take on the Minnesota Wild and with the Jets roster starting to be trimmed, it's maybe a final chance for young players to leave one last impression on Paul Maurice and coaching staff.

Like the last couple of games we've seen, the veteran vs youth ratio will be a factor as the Jets bring a younger more AHL-ish looking lineup into Minnesota while the Wild will have more of an established NHL regulars look.

Until the moment his autograph is drying on a lengthy new contract extension, you're going to hear the name of Winnipeg Jets forward defenseman Dustin Byfuglien - a pending unrestricted free agent - pop up constantly in trade rumours.

Over the past 10 days we've seen the first comer in what's sure to be an endless series of rival NHL clubs with some reported or rumoured interest in Byfuglien emerge: the suddenly defense-needy Boston Bruins.

Jets Nation Recap: Jets Forget There Is A 3rd Period, Lose 4-3 In OT

Remember last season during the playoffs (Oiler fans checking on this recap may have to look up what the word "playoffs" means since it's been so long) when the Jets would take a lead into the 3rd period and we Jets fans were happy and hopeful the team could simply lock it down for 20 more minutes and bring home a win only to see victory cruelly ripped away from the Jets and us fans much like the Oilers cruelly ripped the first overall pick away from the helpless Buffalo Sabres?

That sucked didn't it?

Well, that brings me to Friday night's preseason contest against the Edmonton Oilers.
