Kane Suspended Two Games: Playing without Evander

Evander Kane was suspended for two games for his hit from behind on Clayton Stoner. The loss comes at a difficult time for the Jets. Not only are they facing two Divisional opponents in those games, but injuries to Enstrom, Bogosian, and Clitsome have forced Byfuglien back on defence and thinned out an already shallow roster.

The structure offered by Paul Maurice has made it possible for less talented or less experienced players to keep up and contribute at the NHL level. A team that once drowned with players like Halischuk or Postma on the ice is now able to stay competitive with tighter gaps and more conviction in their defence.

Still, the league's 28th ranked offence is losing a natural scorer, a physical forechecker, and a speedy presence on the wing. What will it mean for the Jets?

No matter how good or poor a team is playing, fans always seem to be concerned about a team’s prospect list and who will be the next player to make a difference on the team. The Jets’ faithful are no different

In the past two weeks since our last Future Plans, Winnipeg’s AHL affiliate the St. John’s IceCaps had a rough spell being shutout in three of five games and scoring just seven goals in their two victories.

The St.John's IceCaps find themselves on the outside of the playoff picture as of now, and the team has lost three of its last four following a five-game winning streak.

The IceCaps are a solid mix of up-and-coming B-level prospects and AHL veterans, and one of the brightest arrows on the club is rookie pro goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, while the early returns on Keaton Ellerby and Scott Kosmachuk are underwhelming.

Much like Lowetide's "Weekend Update" on OilersNation, i'll be looking into the Jets prospects with a special look at the farm club.

JGD #28: Taking the Positive

With a 6-2 win over the Avalanche, the Jets have managed a positive goal differential for the first time since game 3 of the season. Huzzah!

It's been a well earned return to the black, with two wins on this home stand coming on top of an 8-4-3 November record. The Jets' defensive work has them 4th in the league for goals against, bolstered by rookie Michael Hutchinson's stunning 1.62 GAA and .943 sv% through seven starts. The promise of this hockey club - to be a competitive, playoff level team in the West - is being realized under a more patient set of tactics.

Still, strength of schedule has played a large part, as the Jets have played just 15 of their 27 games against teams currently in a playoff position. In those games, the team has a 4-8-3 record, going 10-1-1 against lesser opponents. Collecting points when they are available is a must for any team trying to make the playoffs, but beating the top 15 clubs is the next test. Even without Corey Perry, the Ducks represent another opportunity for the Jets to show their mettle against the league's best.
