The Jets were finally able to add some consistency into their game on Tuesday night, as they are now into what is their longest regulation losing streak of the season. Unable to create pretty much anything against the Lightning, the Jets were able to set what could be seen as a new low on the season as they sunk back into the basement of the Central Division.

Team Comparables: Are the 2014 Jets like the 2009 Oilers?

In debating where the Jets are headed as a franchise, it's worth considering other teams that have been similarly constructed in the past. As a long time Oilers fan, the comparables that come to mind most easily for me come from that franchise. I am starting there, but it may not be the best comparison we find during the season.

Yet for some time, I've felt like the Jets compare well to the teams that arrived after Lord Stanley slipped away in 2006 and Chris Pronger left town for reasons of fit and happiness. The club turned small roster holes into massive mistakes through loyalty and budgets and pride. They used a certain way of seeing the game to justify shipping out good players for worse ones, and the GM left his fans in the cold while talking of evaluation and patience.

If we fast forward from that summer to opening night of 2009, I think you'll see what I mean.

THE TEAM....

Canada finally announced their 2014 roster for the Sochi Olympics, and without a doubt the biggest surprise is Claude Giroux not making the team.

There are eleven returning players on the 25-man roster, but in my eyes Rick Nash continues to be the most overrated player in the NHL. Nash has had one 70-point season, and since the 2010 Olympics he has scored 185 points in 228 games, 25th most amongst Canadian-born players. In that same time span Marty St.Louis has scored the most points, 271, while Giroux is third with 255.
