The Jets Defensive Situation

Well, the Jets defensive situation just got very interesting. With both Byfuglien and Bogosian set to return (Buff tonight against the Flyers, Bogo as early as Friday against Pittsburgh), Coach Noel is now being forced to make some tough decisions regarding who exactly is going to play on the blue line.
It's pretty safe to assume that Enstrom, Stuart, and Hainsey aren't leaving the lineup anytime soon. This means that Redmond, Clitsome, and Postma are the unknown variables.
Got Montoya?

Every morning I have a ritual that my wife loves (sarcasm intended). When I eat my breakfast I crack open my iPad and make sure my fantasy hockey league lineup is set. This usually involves a quick trip to leftwinglock.com to ensure I have the correct goalies started.
I can assure you no one in my league has Al Montoya on their roster.

However, I wasn't surprised to see that Montoya was listed as the 'probable' starter (now confirmed) for tonight's game versus Philly . Pavelec is the team's starting netminder, but when both of your goaltenders have save percentages below .900, rolling with the hot-hand is a good idea- especially in a short season.

Prior to becoming a candidate to become a writer for Jets Nation, I had my own blog and wrote for a few other sites. During that time, I never paid much attention to 'Advanced Stats' and felt they were overkill. Shortly before I shut down my blog I had started investigating advanced stats as I was looking for a better way to argue the merits of certain players. However, once my blog was no more, I stopped looking into different types of statistical analysis in regards to hockey. The lockout continued and my mind wandered to other endeavors.

Jets Win!
Nice to see the Jets beat Ottawa on Saturday. The game was a tad on the boring side, but I'll take boring hockey for 2 points any day. The bigger problem for me is that I'm in Vancouver, and for whatever reason, CBC decided to give us the Edmonton / Detroit game instead. Why they would think that people in BC would rather see the hated Oilers play the fading Red Wings over 2 Canadian teams is beyond me. Especially when one of which, the Jets, just happens to be generally well received by everybody across the Country.

On Friday night TSN.ca reported that Jets coach Claude Noel will be, "shuffling the deck again as they look to find a combination of forwards who can put the puck in the net and help keep it out of their own as well."
I was never a huge stats guy, but I have to say that since I have been introduced to advanced stats I have realized how they can enrich the game. I am a nube when it comes to this, however, I thought it would be interesting to look at some advanced stats along with some conventional ones to see what type of lines I would put together if I were in charge.
