Ever since Blake Wheeler has made the shift to the Atlanta/Winnipeg franchise, his star has taken off. It’s obvious now that Wheeler is a star player in the NHL, and he has proven that he can play tough minutes and against the leagues best defensive pairings. A switch to the second line allowed Wheeler to play against weaker competition and he excelled after a slow start.

On Tuesday the Winnipeg Jets signed budding winger Michael Frolik to a 1-year $3.3m deal, narrowly avoiding Frolik's arbitration date which was set for July 31.
The deal is a slight raise for Frolik who put $1.9m in his bank account last year and is an extra million over his 13-14 cap hit of $2.3m.
After news broke, it was mentioned that Frolik and his agent were discussing deal as long as five years in term with Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff, so that's something that has to have the fan base excited.

When news broke today that the Toronto Maple Leafs had signed Daniel Winnik to a 1-year deal, I couldn't help but think that the Winnipeg Jets dropped the ball once again.
I had the same feeling when the Leafs signed David Booth to a bargain 1-year deal, and I made it known that the Jets could take a look at Dustin Penner.
With the free agent pool depleting and the Jets still having holes in their roster, is there anything left to venture?

When James Reimer avoided arbitration with the Toronto Maple Leafs by signing a 2-year contract extension for $4.6 million, many hockey fans were initially shocked that the disgruntled goalie would sign on for a couple more seasons with a club he was close to divorcing.
The Score writer Justin Cuthbert wrote how the deal Reimer signed is beneficial for both the Leafs and the player. Cuthbert doesn't even try to beat around the bush by discussing the Jets as a likely suitor for the Winnipeg Jets by quoting "Reimer will only cost a frugal club (let's call them his hometown Winnipeg Jets)…."
