Mission Accomplished

The Winnipeg Jets began “The Homestand” on Nov. 29. They had 13 of 15 games at home and they needed to grab at least 20 of 26 possible points at MTS Centre.

It was a simple assignment, but it did not come without a certain degree of difficulty. Especially after the Jets lost the first game at home in late November, 6-4, to Ottawa.

So along comes December. The Jets had 12 of 14 games at home in the month and the team had to make some noise. After all, come January, the Jets will play 12 of 16 away from MTS Centre – 15 of their next 21 away from home -- and if they didn’t make some hay in December, they could end up a long way from the playoffs come the middle of February. It was win in December and then try to keep the ship together.

As the "Leafs Suck! Leafs Suck!" chant reverberated through MTS Centre on New Year's Eve, the Winnipeg Jets did exactly what they had to do.

Thanks to goals by Zach Bogosian (pictured: the Jets all-star calibre defenseman), Andrew Ladd and Blake Wheeler (with the eventual winner at 10:50 of the second period on the power play), the Jets beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2 and completed the task set out by the coaching staff, management, the players themselves and most Jets fans -- get at least 20 points in the month of December.

Jets Opposing Goalie Says He Owes His Success to his Faith

Although James Reimer never left the church, never even considered a life that didn’t include the Lord, he will quite openly admit that he’s “reborn.”

It's a different approach to the Christian "rebirth" that's demanded by so many evangelicals, but the goalie in the opposing net in Winnipeg tonight is different in a lot of ways. After all, this is a kid who left a tiny Christian community in rural Manitoba to play junior hockey (his mother didn't want him to leave home) in Alberta's Bible Belt, and has since become the goaltender of preference in Canada's own Sin City.

TEAM CANADA GAME DAY - UNITED STATES

Well it’s the game we’ve all been waiting for, the showdown for top spot in Group B and the bye in the medal round. Or at least it was supposed to be. Canada held up their part of the rivalry agreement, but apparently someone forgot to deliver the memo to the U.S.

Instead, the New Years Eve game will mean nothing to the Canadians and has the makings of about as much excitement as Canada’s previous three games. That’s right; instead of the mighty obstacle the U.S. was pegged to be from the start, they are now nothing more than a stepping stone. Game time is 8:00 pm EST / 6:00 MST

Mason Saves, Kane Scores and the Jets Steal Another Win

How many times will we repeat this in 2012: "The Jets goaltender stood on his head and Winnipeg stole another win at home?"

Thursday night, in front of another insanely loud crowd at MTS Centre in downtown Winnipeg, Chris Mason, made 31 saves, many of them outstanding, as the Jets No. 2 goaltender kept the Kings at bay long enough to allow Evander Kane to score an overtime goal and give the home side a 1-0 win -- a win they probably didn't deserve.
