A very…Nashville-ish game on Sunday night resulted in another disappointing Jets loss, highlighted by a woeful performance from the most disappointing Jet of all.

The Jets end their home stand with a visit from the Capitals tonight, formerly of the Southeast Division and ex-rivals. You might remember them from such moments as 'back-to-back drubbings that completely unraveled the Jets and ended their bid at 1st in the Division in 2013.' Or that time they played Atlanta.
For better or worse, the Capitals are part of our history now. But with the sky falling in the Jets' new life in the West, you can be forgiven if you'd forgotten the Capitals still existed.

Around every eight games or so, will update the Jets' scoring chance plus/minus, and look at how each player is doing (in conjunction with some of their “fancy stats”) to give us an idea as to how everyone is doing.
Believe it or not, the Jets are already three weeks into the season. Sitting at 4-4 after eight games in (now 4-5 after last night's loss to Nashville), the Jets have run into a few glaring problems. Here we look to see who has struggled most, and who has been a bright spot so far.

Throughout this season I will be evaluating all the goals scored on the Jets, breaking down the situations they are scored in, why they go in, and how. It's another piece of the puzzle in answering whether Pavelec is a quality goaltender let down by the team in front of him, or truly an individual problem. The ratings still contain some subjectivity, but over the course of the season will paint a more detailed picture than our foggy memories.
Here is an update after the Jets first eight games of the season.

As our own Kevin McCartney documented last week, the Winnipeg Jets use a very aggressive forecheck. The three forwards attempt to trap the puck-carrier in his own corner, sealing off any possible exit strategies up the boards or into the open ice.
Aggressive forechecks are going to get caught up ice sometimes. That's one of the trade-offs of getting beneath your opponent's goal line. However, the Jets' forecheck has been noticably struggling all season, and it may have something to do with a preoccupation towards 'Taking the Body,' even finishing their check after the play on the puck has already been made.
