IIHF denies delays in transferring Nail Yakupov, slams “entirely incorrect, false and fabricated” reports

Like most of the readers here at OilersNation, I read Dmitry Chesnokov’s piece on Puck Daddy yesterday with interest. After quoting Rafik Yakubov, the director with Nail Yakupov’s KHL club (Nizhnekamsk Neftekhimik) as saying “The IIHF is not allowing Yakupov to play,” Chesnokov went on to speculate that the IIHF might be waiting for official NHL permission before issuing transfer cards.

According to IIHF communications director Szymon Szemberg, that speculation is “entirely incorrect, false and fabricated.”

A Promise to the NHL and NHLPA

Today is September 15, the expiration of the collective bargaining agreement between the NHL and NHLPA. Tonight, barring an 11th-hour miracle, the league will lock out its players and begin yet another in a seemingly endless cycle of work stoppages.

If that happens, I have a promise to both sides.

What to make of Mark Dekanich

A few days ago the Winnipeg Jets signed free agent goaltender Mark Dekanich. Given that the Jets had already signed Al Montoya to fill the backup goaltending role behind Ondrej Pavelec, and Dekanich lost all but five games last season to injury, what should we make of this signing?

Are negotiations on this collective bargaining agreement going better or worse than they went in 2004?

The collective bargaining agreement between the NHL and NHLPA is slated to expire on September 15, 2012. The league and players’ association have until then to negotiate the details on a new agreement, or else the possibility exists that the 2012-13 season will not begin on time. How are things looking so far?

Winnipeg Jets re-sign Ondrej Pavelec, pay top dollar

The Winnipeg Jets managed to get their starting goaltender under contract earlier today, inking Ondrej Pavelec to a five-year deal with an average cap hit of $3.9 million.
