Dustin Byfuglien has had his share of problems this season. A poor start to the year prompted suggestions that he could be moved up front. An off-season incident raised questions about his maturity level and physical conditioning.

Amid all that, he’s quietly moved past that poor start and had a superb season.

Eastern Conference Bubble Watch: March 8th Edition

The Winnipeg Jets went 5-2-1 in their latest home stand, an eight-game run that helped the team into the final post-season berth in the Eastern Conference. The bad news is that the home stand is now over, and the Jets are forced to head out on the road – starting with a game in Vancouver against the Canucks tonight. Is the shift from home games to road games going to cost the Jets that playoff spot?

The Toronto Maple Leafs on the other hand have a fairly solid road record, even including last night’s distressing defeat. Is that enough for them to pull out of their recent nosedive?

Mark Scheifele, Tanner Pearson and the World Junior Hangover

As the World Juniors hit, they were one of the best stories in the OHL. Mark Scheifele, Winnipeg’s first round pick in 2011, and the undrafted Tanner Pearson were arguably the two hottest players in junior hockey. Scheifele was scoring almost two points per game after being cut by the Jets, while Pearson was picking up a goal every game and averaging more than one assist per contest.

It wasn’t a surprise when both made the roster of Team Canada at the World Juniors.

Unfortunately, since the world’s biggest junior tournament, both have found their offense drying up.
