Well, it's finally here. Jets 2.0 begin their real play this afternoon not simply as the focus of a city's interest, but as the center of the hockey world for at least one day, which seemed utterly inconceivable six months ago. It's still hard to accept, to be honest, but even those of us inclined to cynicism about the community's mood in the runup to today's event have had to acknowledge that something good is on the cusp. It's fair to say that for many Winnipeggers, today is a quasi-religious celebration of something lost and returned in its own way.

Jets 2.0 return to their home this evening for the penultimate outing of the pre-season, and there seems to be one topic that's dominating discussion. As Matt noted yesterday, there's a bit of unwarranted pressure on the club from a good chunk of the fan base to keep their prize rookie in town, although I'm not in that number. Anyone familiar with my scribblings knows I'm not one to advocate rushing players.

Training camp is in full swing, and that means that the proper business of hockey is underway, so a review of some of the news around the league is in order. In this week's go-round, the Flames get the roster down to a more reasonable configuration, the Jets have a noisy start to their exhibition campaign, and Brendan Shanahan has a full plate three nights in to the pre-season.

After a summer spent in anticipation of our national obsession's return to the city, the Jets open their pre-season account with a split-squad pair versus the Blue Jackets. It's not a moment too soon, either, because there's only so much time anyone should spend picking apart the compostions of logos or sweaters. The game's still the thing, and tonight, we'll get our first look at a few of the gents that this site will focus on for the next several months.

The Jets signed the last of their RFAs this afternoon as Zach Bogosian agreed to terms with the club on a two year deal with an AAV of 2.5M. The 21 year old defender struggled in his own end for most of last year, finishing -27 as the burden of difficult competition and Zone Starts proved to be a tough challenge for Atlanta's top pick in '08.
