Winnipeg completed its initial road trip with a very successful evening in DC, beating the Capitals 4-2 via a very complete effort, especially at EV. The Jets' 2 PP goals were nice, and a welcome change, but the game really turned in the second, when the Jets directed 20 EV shots at Braden Holtby while scoring twice and finishing the game as a competitive affair.

Losses aren't all created equal, and after a sluggish display Saturday, the Jets almost resembled a hockey team this afternoon in Boston. I'm quite sure what it is about playing the Bruins, but Winnipeg 2.0 hasn't looked as overmatched against the Bs as they have against the other top Eastern teams. They could have used the extra point, obviously, but at least at EV, they weren't run out of the rink.

Yesterday's putrid affair at MTS wasn't exactly the start the Jets would have hoped for, as they were beaten 4-1 by the Senators. Winnipeg's defensive zone coverage and goaltending looked about as they left things last April, and Craig Anderson was never really stressed after the first period.
As a matter of course, I've gotten into the habit of checking the Corsi and Fenwick numbers after games, along with the distribution of offensive and defensive zone starts to assist me in filtering out a bit of the noise at EV. Unfortunately, Vic hasn't updated his apps as of yet, so after the jump, I've compiled Winnipeg's Corsi, Fenwick and FO ratios via our old friend Excel.

After a winter of delay and discontent, the best league in the world resumes activities this afternoon on 13 fronts. I know that a few people have tried to argue that the absence of the NHL didn't equal the absence of hockey, but in a place like this where the next best option is tier two junior, the game did feel like it was on sabbatical, and thankfully, that respite ends today.

After asking its fans to spend their fall and early winter doing other things, our country's favourite time-waster is officially back in business. The league and PA signed their long-awaited MOU this evening, which will allow the NHL to resume something resembling normal operations later today. With that, a round-up of a few items of interest is in order. After the jump, schedule notes for the Jets, as well as a few thoughts about some of the new terms in the CBA.
