After an even first couple of periods, the Winnipeg Jets opened up in the third period and got pretty goals from both Blake Wheeler and Chris Thorburn for an important 3-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres, who were out of gas at the end of a long road trip.

The Pavelec Perplexity

I don't necessarily have a bone to pick with Ondrej Pavelec, because at the start of the season if you told me that the Winnipeg Jets were going to make the playoffs, I would have told you that it would be "thanks to" and not "in spite of" the young Jets goaltender.
Pavelec has played some amazing hockey games this season, however, he's also put up some stinkers. Remarkably inconsistent, but terrifyingly fun to watch when he's at his best, Pavelec is the kind of goalie who could win you a playoff series as an underdog.
However I think that people tend to get carried away with some saves that he's made. Specifically, this one against Philadelphia:

The stretch drive has begun in the NHL, and in the Eastern Conference, the standings seem to shift every night as there are five teams with a legitimate shot at bumping each other around at the bottom of the Conference's Top 8. If it weren't for the fact that Kevin Cheveldayoff was hired in the summer when the team moved North from Atlanta, how many people would know the name of the Winnipeg Jets' rookie general manager? Not many, I presume, and he kept his hand close to his face in the offseason, making very minor moves to spend a year assessing the core of the team he has.
Is Scott Gomez hockey's most underrated? (Yes)

Poor Scott Gomez. From the website which asks the rhetorical question "Did Gomez score" to players naming him the 3rd most overrated player in hockey, it seems like there are a lot of hockey fans, players and media who don't appreciate his talent.
