In all honesty, I can’t even believe that I am writing this. I’m sure many of you have noticed by now that I am a bit of a Leaf fan, and I can say with certainty that I did not expect Clarke MacArthur to look so available this close to free agency. Yet, as much as it infuriates me it also makes me, and hopefully many other Jets fans, a little hopeful that we may be able to see him here in Winnipeg.

Dustin Byfuglien is a big guy. How big exactly? Well, nobody really knows.
Or so we thought.
Byfuglien has always been reluctant to drop the true number in regards to his weight, and it is completely his right to do so. Yet, Gary Lawless released an article Tuesday in which he states that a reliable source for fellow Jets blogger Pete Tessier has learned that Byfuglien weighed in at 302 pounds at the end of this season. That’s a lot of human.
Personally, the weight itself isn’t what bothers me. Despite his size, Byfuglien has been able to be a dominant defenseman in the NHL (when he decides to be), and has an absolute cannon from the blue line. My problem comes in the fact that somehow Dustin Byfuglien managed to actually gain weight throughout an NHL season. That's no easy task, and to me speaks to a total lack of caring and commitment.
How much weight did Buff gain exactly? Well nobody really knows, but the Jets site has him listed at 265lbs. Therefore, just assuming this is somewhat close (doubtful, but it’s all I have to work with), Buff managed to gain 37lbs while playing professional hockey. Umm... What?
How outrageous is this? Well, luckily stuff like this happens to be an area of expertise in my schooling, so I’m going to do my best to explain this to you.

This weekend the Dallas Stars made what can be considered the first “big” move of the NHL’s 2013 Free Agency period. After obtaining his rights from the Ottawa Senators, the freshly branded Stars signed upcoming UFA Sergei Gonchar to a 2-year, $10 million contract, officially removing him from the market. Although this may seem like a simple decision for the Jets new rivals, it may have more of a tickle-down effect than some may think. Especially, in my opinion, on the signing of Zach Bogosian.

Jets fans woke up this morning to some rather concerning reports. Apparently, according to this article by Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free Press, Alex Burmistrov wants out of Winnipeg. Gary later tweeted stating that Alex is yet to ask for a trade, but that the current rift between him and Claude Noel is “untenable”. This tells me that it is very unlikely that Burmi will sign back with the team this offseason.

Moving into this offseason, a lot has been made of the high number of free agents the Jets have to deal with. In total, the Jets currently have 18 restricted and unrestricted free agents that they must make decisions on, including players such as Bryan Little, Blake Wheeler, Alex Burmistrov, Zach Bogosian and Ron Hainsey. One name that has seemed to slip the minds of many fans is Kyle Wellwood. What should the Jets do with Wellwood?
