The Winnipeg Jets have played two games now since Jake McCabe caught Patrik Laine with his head down and lowered the boom, leaving the young phenom with a concussion and leaving the Jets with a big hole on their first line (second line? Line 1A? 1B?). Coach Paul Maurice decided to replace Patty Boomstick's 21 goals this season with a player who scored 21 last season and has not, to this point, come close to resembling the player he has been in the past: Drew Stafford. Let's take a look at how Stafford has preformed in those two games.

The Jets followed up a decent showing against the Calgary Flames by mailing one in against an injury-ravaged Montreal Canadiens squad who was starting their backup goaltender. How do the the Jets bounce back from what might have been their worst outing of the season (it's not a gimme, though; we can't forget that stinker against the Islanders on New Year's Eve)? Chiarot Misses Practice, Melchiori Recalled, Laine To IR

The Jets take care of a bit of roster housekeeping as they move Patrik Laine to the IR list retroactive to Janurary 7th and call up defenseman Julian Melchiori from the Manitoba Moose. The recall  was likely made as a precaution due to the fact Ben Chiarot missed the Jets practice on Thursday due to illness.

Chiarot will miss tonight's game against the Coyotes as he did not make the trip to Arizona. Look for Mark Stuart to possibly draw into the lineup if not Melchiori.

Should the Jets seek goaltending reinforcements?

Jacob Stoller

It's no secret that the Jets could use some help between the pipes.

Connor Hellebuyck, the presumed goalie of the future, is struggling in his first full NHL season. Michael Hutchinson on the other hand, isn't playing like an NHL-calibre backup, thus placing more responsibility on the shoulders of Hellebuyck. The Jets need a boost in net and it's likely they can't get that from anywhere else internally. Looking down to the Manitoba Moose, the Jets have Ondrej Pavlelec and Eric Comre waiting in the wings and neither of the two net-minders would be of much help at this time.

Pavelec, the Jets former starter, was demoted for a longetivity of poor play. Whereas Comrie, 21, needs to be properly developed and seasoned in the AHL for the remainder of this season before the idea of him making an NHL-start is considered.

Should the Jets look for another goaltender to improve the teams goaltending and furthermore, help take the load off Connor Hellebuyck?

The NHLN Notebook is a semi-regular feature of interesting hockey content from the past few days that doesn't quite deserve its own article.

In today's notebook, we talk about shootouts, Datsyuk's return to the NHL and Bryzgalov being Bryzgalov.
