On Monday, Winnipeg Jets head coach Paul Maurice announced that forward Evander Kane will be out until mid-February with a lower-body injury. Yes, ugh, I know. So what do the Jets do now? They do have a few options on the table that they can explore to help temporarily fill the hole up front.

St.John's IceCaps Update: Christmas Break

The IceCaps get into the rhythm of standing still by losing one game and winning the next. Heading into the Christmas break, they stayed true on that form. The IceCaps split the mini-series with the Hamilton Bulldogs, leaving themselves entrenched in the playoff battle once again.

While Connor Hellebuyck continues to impress, the IceCaps saw more from their veteran players than from their upcoming prospects. Jason Jaffray and John Albert had the most enticing boxcar numbers, while Carl Klingberg was the headline stealer among prospects.

Reinhart Shines, Canada Drops Finland 4-1

It would appear to be a one-sided victory when you look at the scoreboard, but Team Canada's 4-1 win over Team Finland was close, hard fought one. Finland, desperate to avoid dropping three straight games to open the tournament, kept the game close until late in the third period, but ultimately couldn't contain Canada's explosive offence.

Team Canada is off to an excellent, albeit expected start at this year's World Juniors tournament, winning their first two games with ease. That being said, anything short of a regulation win tonight could put Canada in danger of being leapfrogged by Team USA in the Group A standings.
