Five goalies the Winnipeg Jets should consider trading for

Winnipeg Jets head coach Paul Maurice has all the confidence in the world Michael Hutchinson can hold down the fort while starting goalie Ondrej Pavelec recovers from a knee sprain.

"Michael Hutchinson played outside the backup role in big games in a higher volume than you would see in a lot of (other) backups. So he has a lot of experience," Maurice told reporters earlier this week.

But that experience may not be enough to help keep the Jets in the playoff race by the time Pavelec returns, which could be as late as February.

The Winnipeg Jets are a small market team. Winnipeg may be 'small' relative to the size of some of the other metropolitan areas which act as host cities for the NHL 29 other member clubs, but it's a loyal and ravenous hockey market, which allows the Jets to punch above their weight in terms of revenue and operating income.

All of which is to say that the Jets may rank 30th in hockey in terms of the size of the metro area in which their team is located, but they're in the top two-thirds of the league in franchise value, according to Forbes' 2015 NHL franchise valuations.

Ondrej Pavelec out for at least December; Welcome to the Hutchinson and Hellebuyck show

Paul Maurice, as reported by Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun, stated that Ondrej Pavelec has suffered a "significant knee sprain" and the Jets are not anticipating a return until January or February.

The Jets in turn have called up goaltender prospect extraordinaire Connor Hellebuyck from the Manitoba Moose.

While no one wishes (or at least should wish) ill on another human being, there is a silver-lining to the cloud though with the Jets goaltending may actually improve with this exchange.
