The 2014-15 NHL season is rapidly approaching. Respective prospect tournaments and training camps are starting any day now, and the preseason schedule itself gets going less than two weeks from now. Those are sure-fire signs that hockey is on the horizon.
Another harbinger that makes that realization feel more tangible? Bovada has released their over/under lines for team point totals this coming season.

Well, well, well, I apologize for the lack of content recently. The last week has been really hectic for me in my real life, but I should be back in the saddle now with the NHL on the horizon.
I'm patiently waiting for NHL 15 to arrive at my house because that's the first sign of NHL coming back into my life. In a few short (okay, but it will feel long) days the rookie tournament will be going on in Penticton and that will signal the start of hockey season for the Winnipeg Jets.

Our western conference preview continues with a focus on the Winnipeg Jets. This is the Jets' fourth season in Winnipeg after relocating from Atlanta, and they've missed the playoffs all three seasons. They finished with 84 points in 2012 and 2014, and 51 during the shortened 2013 season.
They missed the playoffs by eight points in 2012 and four points in 2013 while skating in the eastern conference. They moved to the west last year and ended up in 11th spot, seven points out of the playoffs.
They Jets don't need a massive improvement to make the postseason, but there is one glaring reason why they will could struggle to make the playoffs; Goaltending.

When Mark Stuart signed his 4-year contract extension, there was a gasp and many eyes rolling throughout the NHL. Stuart is a solidified NHL player, but a guy that plays 5/6 pairing minutes against weak competition doesn't normally earn more than a two-year deal.
Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff made fans shudder when he stated that Stuart "is what the Winnipeg Jets are all about" and obviously looked past his inequalities.
