The Jets got a bit of unhappy news this afternoon, as Zach Bogosian's right wrist is hors de Xbox, or something along that line, and will require surgery and a recovery period lasting as long as six months. Under normal circumstances, that would be dreadful news, but with a potential lockout on the horizon, that might be downgraded to merely lousy, depending on how long the NHL is shuttered.

Eric T. has been performing yeoman work this summer over at NHL Numbers, and he added another excellent article to his collection last week with a look at Quality of Competition. What makes this look at the subject a bit different is that the data used in measuring that quality was time on ice of opposing forwards and defencemen, and not out-shooting.

As the billionaires ready themselves to lock-out the millionaires over a few percentage points of total revenues, we here at Nation Radio nevertheless resolutely march on with continued hockey coverage. It may be mid-August and we may be talking about the same stuff in November because the powers-that-be are having their white collar slap fight, but what the hell...it's why we're all here right?

Winnipeg's roster was pretty much filled out by mid-July with the Wellwood signing, but there might still be one or two more spots up for grabs at forward. A Twitter discussion this morning not only reminded me about how a couple of potential candidates for those jobs were perceived by the public at the end of last season, but had me wondering how grounded that perception was in reality.
