Did the Jets Miss Out on Kris Versteeg?

As the NHL preseason rolls on, we slowly get to see what rosters will look like as new players are brought in through trades, free agent signings, or NHL ready prospects. General managers are continually looking for ways to improve their team during this time and as a result, we hear about trade rumours.

One such rumour regarding the Winnipeg Jets popped up in Elliotte Friedman's 30 Thoughts. Thought number six reads, “Word is Winnipeg was another team taking a long look at Kris Versteeg. Not exactly sure what would go back the other way, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if something creative like injured Grant Clitsome’s contract was part of the conversation.”

Instead of being traded to the Jets, the Carolina Hurricanes ended up trading for the winger.

After all was said and done, that didn't turn out as bad as many of us thought it would.

Despite icing a lineup that - save for one forward line and one defensive pair - was laced with AHL level talent at best, and facing an Oilers lineup that was 75% of their expected NHL roster the Jets did relatively well.

Despite a 1-0 loss to the Minnesota Wild in the opening game of pre-season action on Tuesday night, Hellebuyck raved about the OT changes and what it means to fans.

JGD Preseason #2: Oiler Aboard!

The quick pace of the NHL preseason is in full effect tonight as the Winnipeg Jets - fresh off last night's OT loss to the Minnesota Wild - are in Edmonton to take on the perennially young and rebuilding Oilers.

The Oilers have managed to get out to a fine 2 and 0 start to the preseason after a couple of wins on Monday night in split squad games against the Calgary Flames so of course Oilers fans are planning the parade already.
