It's old news now (like, two days!), but the Jets moved elder prospect Spencer Machacek for Czech winger Tomas Kubalik over the weekend. It's a small move, and neither player is likely to play 200 games in the NHL. Still, I'm obsessive, so we're going to talk about each player, why it happened, and what it means for the Jets after the jump!

The Jets return home tonight after a rather disappointing road trip that saw them go 2-1-1, and end up sitting practically in the same place in the standings as they did when they left. Now the Jets are in a position where getting points against a feisty Leafs team is critical.

The Jets have been struggling to stay on the playoff bubble in the East all year. A 3-game win streak to end February gave way to two decisive losses to divisional opponents, and the recent road trip collected 5 of a possible (and expected) 8 points against also-rans and the struggling Devils. Sure, there have been some injuries, particularly to the team's best two defencemen in Byfuglien and Enstrom. Goaltending has been... well, that's another article. But the Jets special teams has let fans down more nights than not. The mere fact that I can write a multi-part series on the Jets woes at special teams is disheartening. Might as well start with the good news. That's right, the Penalty Kill is the good news. Good gravy...

New Jersey Devils (11-9-5) vs.
Your Winnipeg Jets (12-11-1)
Last Meeting February 28th, Jets 3, Devils 1
Game at 6pm on TSN-Jets and TSN 1290-Winnipeg
The Jets might be the most fortunate team in the NHL in March. No one can help what division they play in, but this is the Jets first game against a team with a winning record so far this month and it comes when New Jersey has gone 2-6-2 in their last ten games, collecting just three points in the 8 games since Brodeur was injured. Hedberg will be in net for his 9th straight start today and his 3rd of the season against the Jets. The Jets have a chance to make it three in a row against Moose, and three in a row on the calendar as well.

The Winnipeg Jets have officially hit the halfway point. Twenty four games deep and the boys are very much still in the playoff race. Holding a 12-11-1 record the Jets are currently sitting in 9th in the Eastern Conference, a single point back of the Rangers for 8th, and two points behind the division leading Carolina Hurricanes. It hasn’t always been pretty, but the team has set themselves up for an end of the year push that could potentially see them make the playoffs.
This article will review each of the major positions (forwards, defensemen, and goaltending) as to their performance and roles thus far this season, as well as cover some major points on the team, and give a look forward to the second half of the year.
