Two teams with identical records battling for the same goal: Auston Matthews.

The Winnipeg Jets wrap up a mini West Coast road trip Wednesday night against the Calgary Flames as both clubs continue to dip in the standings and increase their odds of winning the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NHL Draft Lottery.

Heading into action Wednesday night, the Flames hold a 11.5 per cent chance of landing the top pick, while the Jets are right behind at 9.5%.

Jets Nation Recap: Book 'Em Dano! Jets Win 5-2

There are Winnipeg fans who have hopes that the Jets would stumble down this last stretch of games and fall into a really nice top three draft pick. There are people within the Canucks who have hopes that Vancouver would make a late season rally and slip into the playoffs.

Neither of those hopes were helped tonight as the Jets went into Vancouver and put the Canucks on blast 5-2.

And even if the thought of the tank stalling out leaves a bad taste in your mouth, imagine how it feels for Canucks fans knowing Marko Dano - who picked up two goals tonight - was a player offered by the Chicago Blackhawks to the Canucks back at the deadline.
