Playoff Push: Idle Jets will be scoreboard watching on Thursday night

It wasn't that long ago the Winnipeg Jets were riding high on a five-game winning streak and in cruise control for a playoff berth.

Fast forward two weeks later, the Jets are now clinging to the final wild-card spot in the West with 90 points as the Los Angeles Kings breathe down their necks and the Calgary Flames pull ahead.

Indeed while the Winnipeg Jets have their best shot at making the playoffs in the version 2.0 era, there remains a good chance that the club will miss the playoffs yet again for the fourth consecutive time since relocating to Manitoba.

Banish such darks though though because today we open our series looking at how the Jets match up against their most likely playoff opponents. We'll start it off with the Anaheim Ducks.

Dustin Byfuglien will have telephonic hearing Thursday for violent cross-check on Rangers' Miller

Winnipeg Jets apex predator Dustin Byfuglien could be facing a five-game suspension for his "vicious, deliberate" cross-check on New York Rangers forward J.T. Miller.

The NHL's Department of Player Safety announced on Wednesday that Byfuglien's actions in Tuesday night's game will be evaluated in a telephonic hearing on Thursday. A telephone hearing carries a maximum suspension of five games, and it seems possible that Byfuglien could miss the balance of the regular season.
