The Jets Should expand Nic Petan's role

January 14 2017 09:00AM

Nic Petan needs more ice time and the Jets need him to have more ice time, if they want to push for the playoffs. The 21 year old can be a difference maker for the Jets, but only if he is given more opportunity.

With Patrik Laine on the injured reserve, now is the time to give Petan a larger role again.

Winnipeg Jets player grades: Games 1-41

January 07 2017 02:19PM

The Jets are 41 games into the season, which is the halfway point. The team currently stands at 19-19-3, which is good for 5th in the Central Division. If the Jets continue to play .500 hockey and accumulate 38 wins, this will not put them into a playoff spot.

JGD 39: Jets Look to Close Out 2016 on a High Note

December 31 2016 01:00PM

The Winnipeg Jets look to exit 2016 and enter 2017 on a high note as they play game 39. But to do so, they will have to face a familiar face in a New Years Eve show down with Andrew Ladd and the New York Islanders.

The Islanders look like a shell of the team from 2015-16. What was once a promising team now looks like a team in need of a rebuild, again. The Islanders are making suspect lineup decisions, they waived Jaroslav Halak and are playing 3rd liners with John Tavares.

The Jets, however, are a team on the upswing of a rebuild, with consistency being the key. If they can put together a strong 60 minute game (cliche alert), then the Jets should easily be able to win this match up.

Heart is Good, But Skill is Better

December 24 2016 01:07PM

If hockey analysts aren’t arguing about Corsi and analytics, they are arguing about the value certain players bring to the locker room of their team. Many times these are players who are coined as having heart and grit, but their actual hockey skill is lacking.

Take a look across the league. There are players like Derek Dorsett, Matt Martin, Derek Engelland and more who are believed to have an immeasurable impact in the dressing room.

For the Jets specifically, they are frequently icing a lineup with Chris Thorburn and Mark Stuart in it. I am not in the dressing room, so I cannot see or quantify the impact they are making to the players around them but they are wasting a valuable roster spot if you are looking at what they bring skill wise.
