Jets Nation Recap: It's Pavelectric!

Earlier in the day we learned of a possible Jets v Oilers outdoor game that hearkened back to the heated rivalries that the Oilers and the 1.0 version of the Jets.

Tonight's game will not remind anyone of those battles. This one barely reminded fans of an actual NHL game. One that the Jets won 2-1 in a shootout.

There really isn't much to say about this game because there really wasn't much to it. It was pretty much what you'd expect from the 29th and 27th place teams in the league. Yes the Jets carried play for the most part as they peppered Oilers rookie Laurent Brossoit with 33 shots. But this game was more or less a lot of missed chances, plenty of turnovers and ugly play all around.

That said, the Jets goal in the second period that came off a two on one from Nik Ehlers to Blake Wheeler was a thing of beauty. It was as pretty as the effort that lead to the Oilers goal to tie things up in the 3rd period was ugly as Trouba blew a couple of wheels crossing the blueline which led to Matt Hendricks scoring on a breakaway.

Both teams had issues staying out of the penalty box and it led to a frantic OT period between both teams and into the shootout which saw Wheeler and Ladd score and Oilers super-rookie Connor Mcdavid get stopped cold by Ondrej Pavelec for the win.

THREE KEYS

Pavs Back - He looked a little shaky at times with his over-persuit of pucks in the crease, but give credit where it's due to Pavelec who made several fine saves to keep the Jets in the game and was very solid in the shootout - a contest that he's famously stated he has never been a fan of.

Undisciplined - The same story as always with this team as they took multiple bad penalties in situations where they got lazy with sticks or stopped skating and against a team like the Oilers who have been fairly potent on offense with McDavid and Jordan Eberle it was a poor strategy that they fortunately didn't get burned by.

McDavid McNeutralized - McDavid had only gone pointless one other game since his return so the Jets holding him pointless shouldn't be overlooked at a small feat. He did have his chances with 4 shots, but the Jets did well to keep him in check even as he led the Oilers forwards in ice time.

YOUR HOT TAEKS

(Not really though, even we have to admit McDavid is fun to watch!)
