It's summer but there's still lots of hockey to talk about. Shane Doan is the league's foremost free agent and is rumoured to be going just about everywhere. In Edmonton, Nail Yakupov is now under contract and discussions on the new downtown arena are ongoing.

Allan Mitchell (better known as Lowetide) talks about all this and more with guests David Staples, Jonathan Willis, Kirk Luedeke, Cam Davie and Jeff Krushell.

This is Nation Radio.

Part 1

Allan opens the show by talking about the signings of Nail Yakupov, Alex Semin and the rumours surrounding Shane Doan, and then jumps quickly into an interview with David Staples of the Edmonton Journal and the Cult of Hockey. Staples has strong opinions on the proposed downtown arena as well as the Oilers and considers both in detail.

Part 2

The second guest on Nation Radio is Jonathan Willis. Willis writes for the various Nation sites - particularly OilersNation and NHLNumbers - and is also a regular at the Cult of Hockey. He's back from holidays and talks about Shane Doan, Nail Yakupov, Justin Schultz and what 2012-13 will look like for the Oilers.

Part 3

Allan looks at line combinations and who may or may not make the 2012-13 Edmonton Oilers out of training camp.

Part 4

Kirk Luedeke of Red Line Report and the New England Hockey Journal joins Allan to talk about the 2012 Draft. They consider the most surprising picks as well as which teams did the best at restocking their system.

Part 5

Cam Davie, who writes as Tinfoil Tuque on Canucks Army, talks to Allan about Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer. Davie wrote about his family's personal experience with cancer earlier in the week and discusses the initiative as well as the Vancouver Canucks.

Part 6

Jeff Krushell, a former strength and conditioning coordinator with the Toronto Blue Jays and now the owner of Krush Sports Performance, talks to Allan about how players prepare for a new season as well as how they rehabilitate their injuries.

For anyone who couldn't hear it before, it should work now. Kent normally does this, and I believe I now have it right.

Something else to blame on Brian Burke. He cancelled Christmas (Brass Bonanza) in favour of Gary Glitter.

Looks like Mark Jankowski is headed straight to Providence instead of a year in the USHL. Which is a good thing considering if he spent a year in the USHL and four in college he would be eligible to pull a Justin Schultz/Blake Wheeler becoming a free agent (not signing 5 years after your drafted).

He also showed that the league he played in last year (MPHL) wasn't as awful as some thought, with his performance in rookie camp. Considering Matt Dumba/Coda Gordon both played in that league not surprising to me (Edge Program in Calgary has a team, they also regularly play Shattuck and are competitive against both). Considering he is training in Toronto this summer with John Tavares he will be ready for the NCAA, Hahah

Looks like he will not be as long term prospect as some thought, also all the bandwagon fans who jumped on Jay Feaster for drafting him maybe don't over react so quickly next time, until you have concrete information, as the NHL Central Scouting Final Rankings are not the end all and be all for NHL teams considering how often they miss.

Other NHL Central Scouting Final Ranking misses, they had Henrik Samuelsson 75th for NA Skaters he went 27th. They had Andreas Athanasiou 40th he went 110th. They had Gemel Smith 37 he went 104.

Cannot hear either direct on website from my computer or from my mobile device. When I clcik on the „Part 1„ label then I come to an empty drop box. Further, cannot download show on i-Tunes. Can you please check out the technical problems. As an Oilersfan overseas this show was one of the best ways to stay connected and up-to-date with the team.
